I'm looking to put a aussie locker in the 60 next weekend. I hear and have read how easy it is but it's my daily driver and I don't want to get it open and choke so any help would be great. I was hoping to do it on Sun. the 24th. I was thinking all I'll need is the locker and the gaskets if there is anything else please let me know.

Cheers

Gear oil and RTV. I may be able to help, unless my buddy is finally ready to work on my front gears by then. If I'm not in the front diff of my rig that day I'd be happy to be in the rear diff of your rig. I won't know for sure until it gets closer. If you have all the stuff you need I can help this sunday.

Sorry, but what is RTV? As you can see I need help LOL The parts won't be in until next week or I would be on for this weekend. By the way were did you pick up your locker?

sealant stuff like silicone. I like to use it together with the gaskets. That combo seems to work well for the no leaks guarantee. I like to use the red stuff, not the black silicone.
I got the Aussie from the Aussie locker website. I believe its the same one you have.

Not a joke but I do have that stuff and it is red. I used it when I put the water pump in and replaced the radiator. Just didn't know what it was called.

thanks

Spotted that one too, but wasn't going anywhere near it... so to speak.

A friend of mine came over a while back to fix his CV and install a Detroit locker in his rear diff. We disassembled the CV and then went to work on the locker. I grabbed the bearings out of the CV and crawled under the truck with him. He asked why I had the CV bearings. I told him I wanted to hold his balls while I went into his rear end. :D

Torque wrench & feeler gauge.

I have all the tools needed if I help you. I've never pulled axles out of a semi-floater before, but I'm sure it's not that f-ed up.

Brake fluid Kevin? For what?

To bleed the bleedin' brakes, me hearty!

Now I'm lost, what would we be bleedin brakes for?

I don't know about the Toy rear semi-floater, but on others I've worked on the backing plate unbolts from the housing to remove the axle shaft enough to pull the diff. That usually requires disconnecting the brake lines.

All of the Toyota semi-floaters that I have done the backing plate comes off with the axle, sometimes you can stretch the hard line enough to get the diff out. But I prefer to disconnect the line and bleed when done, it probably is time for a good flush anyway.
