I am contemplating 33's at stock ride or 34-35's with a 2.5 OME lift. Through all the pictures I have gone through of lifted trucks with big tires I don't think I have seen one truck with aftermarket wheels on it.

I'm not saying the OEM wheels are ugly. I was going to go with a black 18" wheel with either a 33 or 35 and can't find anyone running anything other than a stock wheel. Do these trucks have a crazy offset you can't match, or would you guys rather spend your money elsewhere?

I haven't really looked yet, but I'm guessing it might be harder to find good tires in say 18" as opposed to 16" where you can get pretty much anything.

16 inch tires are cheaper and the oem wheels are forged and ultra strong.

The pics. are out there.

I've got some black steel aftermarket wheels on mine. 16-inch. They were on the truck when I bought it. I definatly like the way they look, but if they hadn't already of been on the truck, I wouldn't of spent the money on them. I probably would of just painted the factory wheels black. I love black wheels on the white truck. If I WERE going to spend money of different wheels though, I'd probably go with a set from an FJ cruiser or a tundra and paint them black if they weren't already. There are quite afew people on here with those wheels on their 80's.

Here's a pic of what mine looks like.....About 6inches lift with 35inch tires, 16inch wheels.

I did not know the stock wheels were forged. Very cool.

I guess what I don't see even more are people going over a 16" wheel. More sidewall is always better for off roading.

Hmmm, interesting. Almost all of the JDM imports I've seen around here all have aftermarket wheels. I have photos of 3:

Noel's HDJ81 (1992 model year I think)

What wheels are on the first picture?

Most aftermarket wheels (unless your paying $$$ for billet/forged) are cast. If wheeling is part of the plan, they are more prone to cracking, breaking, factory wheels are more durable. I run 17", because tires are significantly less expensive in the size I prefer. I run factory wheels, from a Tundra.

Keep in mind 99% of the JDM 80s here have 15" wheels. Much more variety in aftermarket options.

Someone posted on here..maybe C-dan...that the Japanese have a wheel standard on the 4x4 trucks that the tires have to be able to stay on the rim and hold pressure after a direct curb impact at something like 40 mph. I could have some of those figures wrong. But after reading that, I saw no need or advantages to changing rims over the stock OEM versions.

I like the look of black wheels on a white cruiser as well, American Racing makes a few different options, not the best but decent. I replaced mine due to excessive corrosion on the OEMs and I didn't have time to have them powder-coated while the truck was up on blocks. In hindsight I would have rather gone with new TRD FJ Cruiser wheels as opposed to the ones I got.

I run the wheels on the right but the fully polished version. Dick Cepek Tires & Wheels

Look rally good on a white 80 but sucks to keep them looking clean. When $ permit, I wouln't mind having them anodized if possible. Still love them, though.

My wife has an 06 4runner Limited with the 18" gray 6 spoke wheels on it. Anybody know if 4runner wheels are forged? I could swap them over. She's been whining about getting new wheels anyway ;)

I'm impressed that most Toyota wheels are forged though.

I don't but that is because I started with 15" wheels.

the Factory 16 inchers just look nice and are forged alloys at the same time.

I run 15" wheels as well but they came with the 35's I picked up.
I will probably go back to the stock wheels, they are beefy and pretty light to.

i like my stock wheels, i think that they look good and as stated above its cheeper to get 16 inch tires. i would rather take the money for rims and spend it on something else

Toyota Owner Magazine

Toyota Owner Magazine has a nice write up on a set of double bead locked Hutchinson wheels. Very durable, very heavy and expensive. Really cool.
