Is there any prep to the metal after sandblasting needed prior to painting rust bullet on it? I figured I can just blow off or pressure wash if needed and then paint after it dries?

Don't the directions help any?

What are those?

You would think that some sort of chemical etching substance would need to be used before the application of their product....

:meh:

thats what I am going to go with, I did not know if needed any kind of metal wash or something, I dont have the cans of paint here with me. Thanks

If you plan on doing body work to it then i would shoot it with an epoxy. Its pretty heavy duty.

If you plan on shooting it right away any decent primer would work. Try to avoid touching it with your bare hands before you shoot it if you can.

prep

Rust Bullet - Rust Inhibitor Corrosion Protection Coating

complete instructions here but basically just goes on clean (no oil, dirt, loose paint) dry metal or over painted surfaces prepped with 100-150 sandpaper.

No other prep required

This stuff goes on pretty thick so I think the sandblasted surface will fill up nicely w/o sanding. Put on a couple coats.

It sticks to metal better than paint though so I would put it straight on the bare metal

I did this on mine then used primer over that and lightly sanded the primer then used POR 15 chassis coat to give it a satin black finish

I wipe my stuff down with a cleaner prior to painting with Rust Bullit. It sticks like you would not believe! Make sure the lip of your Rust Bullit can is clean and free of paint before closing or you'll have a battle on your hands next time you try opening it (don't ask how I found that out)!!

can

Yup that's right I put foil over mine then put the lid on to keep the wet paint from glueing it together

but the foil gets glued on but it works ok

too funny,I cant wait to get this stuff going on, I just picked up all my CDN M101 axles, springs, front bars, pintle from the sandblaster along with the stuff I already had sandblasted for the cruiser so I am going to give a shot next weekend. I plan on shooting it on in 2 coats and then shooting satin black on it while still drying on its last coat, I will try the aluminum foil thing. Thanks for the help fellas

If you are spraying it make sure you have toulene to clean the gun. Paint thinner, mineral spirits or lacquer thinner will not touch it!

My experience with sand blasting or even raw metal is that they will flash rust if left untreated almost immediatly, even just from the humidity in the air. I havent used Rust Bullet before but know POR-15 says some rust is ok... then whats the point of it?

Anyway, just one mans thoughts

toulene, ok got it. I am glad you said that fo we were planning on cleaning with mineral spirits. Thanks alot
