So this past weekend I learned the limitations of the OEM rear cargo mat.

I needed to fold up ONE rear seat since we were hauling an extra little one - but I still needed to keep my snowboard gear poking through the second row middle seat.

Basically, if you need to fold up one or both of the 3rd row seats - and have the cargo mat installed - it becomes incredibly cumbersome and a huge pain in the ass. Your only choice is to remove it, and if you're say, in a parking lot with a full load... there aren't a lot of places to put it. :bang:

I set out to buy a new folding cargo mat today, and lo and behold...... nada. I am absolutely floored by this. How did Lexus not make a cargo mat for a car where EVERY model has split folding 3rd row seats? Even the 4Runner has an optional folding mat, even though the 3rd row seats are a (comparatively) rare option:

It seems like the only option out there for the GX460 is the Canvas Back Liners:

The design is there, but I'm not a big fan of canvas. I'd much rather stick to rubber and I happen to work with a company that can make rubber floor mats if the interest is there.

SO, my question is - would anyone be interested in a rubber, folding mat for the rear of their GX? If so, let me know if you have dual or three zone climate control and what color you'd be interested in (black, tan or grey). I'll start...

Maxspider 3rd row works - I have one

Lexus version

Or fold this in half

I keep thinking I should take my 3rd row out as they have only been used about a 1/2 dozen times in 4 years... and half of those times were to show others it had a 3rd row. :-)

So I own that last one. Total PITA. Folding in half doesn’t really work.

What’s the first/second one? Does that fit in the cargo area around the 3rd Row seats? Or is that for the floor when the 3rd row is up?

The first two are for the floor on 3rd row... you will need to make something or buy one of those padded things you see on Aliexpress they use for floormats as well.

You have a market but not sure about demand and worth the effort to sell if nothing out there after 12 model years.

Well if you pulled them out and the associated trim you'd save about 120 lbs.

If it operates similarly to the 4Runner mats you picture and doesn't cost more than the canvasback count me in for a three zone in black.

I'm in the same boat as you. It is ridiculous that we don't have a decent option.
As long as price is reasonable, count me in for dual zone black.

Yeah, I get it. I'm right in the middle of things with a 5 and 7 years old. The next 5-6 years I foresee using the 3rd row seating more than ever with cousins and friends and grandparents. If I'm at home, I just pop out the cargo mat before I go and we're good. But on the fly, no bueno. I'm sure one day I won't need it... but that day isn't today!

12 years in - I can't be the first to contemplate this. Maybe just the only one dumb enough to try and change it. ;)

I have been considering ordering that 4R Canadian cargo mat and seeing if I can just use the the parts that cover the rear seat from it along with the stock lexus piece closest to the rear door. 4runner 3rd row seats look like they are the same dimensions to ours, so it might work.

Report back!

This is why I removed ours, they were used once for a nephew to ride 35 minutes down the road lol. The space I obtained by removing them is priceless.

Yea, I guess we have a tendency to be a little "high brow" around here!
Toyota's? I wouldn't even wipe my feet on one!!! :p (JUST KIDDING!! The rest of my family all drive Toy's)

Resurrecting this forum. Great topic…

I have a power 3rd row with 3-zone climate as well. Right now I use the OE Lexus All Weather mats for the entire truck (cargo included). I do absolutely love it and it’s saved my carpets a ton of times, but at least a rubber option that folds and comes up without removal would be nice. My rear does have tied down points where you can remove and fold the rear cargo mat in the sliver of space you have left, but still….

I have the canvas back liners and they have a split for the 3rd and 2nd rows to lift independently on each side. Not a cargo mat, but definitly a cover. I LOVED mine super well made and exact fit. I have now removed the the 2nd and third rows so they are obsolete, but I still recommend them. If you want to keep the seats. Pro tip, I also got the flaps that go over the 2nd row headrests when down, a must have IMO with dogs that like to stand on the headrests.

Are they pretty grippy to the factory carpet so when you try to pull or slide something out, they stay put?

Ultra grip to the carpet. Very strong Velcro, so much so that it does lift up the carpet fibers when removing. Nothing a razor blade can’t fix but still. I think that’s a plus. They are waterproof too.

Oh, didn't know they had Velcro on the bottom. Yeah, Velcro to the factory carpet is pretty darn strong.

These look awesome. Do you know if we can purchase just the 2nd row canvas instead of both?
