Hey guys,

Did some searching but didn't find a lot on homemade rear bumpers. I like the look of the 100 without the plastic bumper, but don't have the kind of $$$ to get an aftermarket setup. I do however have a nice welder and some nice metalworking tools here at home.

I took my plastic off this weekend for a club run (so the trail wouldn't take it off for me) and had several discussions with guys in the club about making a homemade bumper for it.

Any ideas on what a good homemade rear bumper for the 100 would consist of?

Any 100 specific thoughts on the major pitfalls of making one yourself?

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you can weld, I suggest the 4x4 Labs DIY rear bumper. Pretty reasonable and you don't have to reinvent the wheel. It's also very stout and can take a beating.

I chopped 3" off the stock bumper and sprayed it black. It looks aftermarket, gives high clearance, and costs nothing.

One option

Yes, it certainly can.

Looks like a nice simple bumper. Sort of what I had in mind. Couldn't find much more that this link about it though: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/573805-4x4-labs-rear-bumpers.html and their site only has 80 pics posted.

Any other info / good links?

I remember seeing a post of you doing this and really liking the outcome, but I think I'd also like to have a tire carrier and some sort of rear slider set-up in back. I seem to hit my rear end more than anything when out wheeling.

Nice and clean. Who's Amando?

4x4 Labs DIY photos

Here are a few pics from my 4x4 labs DIY. Mine is missing the tubes along the rear rocker panels. It fit too snugly to easily weld them on and I liked it without them.

Any more info on this particular bumper?

I need a rear bumper w/o a tire carrier that can stand up to the some wheeling.
