Hi everyone, First off I just want to thank everyone for this awesome resource. It is incredibly valuable to me. I gave up my beloved BJ60 a few years back due to rust and gathering mechanical issues and slipped to the dark side with two Heeps which I treated as 'disposable cars'. I have ordered this '91 HDJ81 after a thorough mechanical and cosmetic survey for a pretty decent price. I have already booked a baseline service at Ateb but still have questions. The rig is now at the docks in Japan and my survey doesn't list the tire size (other than they are >80%) and the height of the lift. I can't get the agent to get me the details now that it is at the docks. Can anyone estimate these details for me? I am especially interested in the total height of the rig so if anyone has any ideas I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance! (TRYING TO ATTACH IMAGES...)

IMHO it looks like a 5"+ lift. Ones I have seen first hand that appear to have that much room in the wheel well with large tires like that has to be 5" or over. I am sure someone else who's more knowledgeable will chime in with more detail.

BTW - any specs you have on it would be helpful! Year, model, engine - etc.

John

Nice looking rig. I think 4 to 5" lift and 35" tires.

Here's mine with a 4" lift and 1" spacer up front with 17" wheels and 35's. Its about 80 inches tall overall.

What's with the fart can?

Sorry, It's a '91 1hdt/auto locked VX Limited, basically a full load. Reported 66,000 miles 112,000 km. Very clean interior and underside. The only blemishes on the survey are the scratches on each side of the bumper. The only aftermarket JDM addition shown is the stainless exhaust. (fartcan!) - Lka- Wanna buy it? (lol!)

Don't get me wrong, it's a sweet-looking rig. Even better with the diesel.

I just don't understand the fart can exhaust... If it were mine, I'd be running muffler-less, with a 4-5" dump out the side.

LKA I totally agree with you. I think we will consider the fart can an 'endangered accessory'! This truck was one of the least Japanified with a solid survey and photos. The interior seems pretty mint as well. I am pretty excited about getting back into a LC! Used to do major USA roadtrips in my '60- hoping to get there again soon.

ERG80- Thank you for that help. Might just make it into the garage- might have to lose the sunroof deflector.

If anyone wants to chime in with any further advice or opinions on this rig please ler 'er rip!

I could swear I've seen that rig somewhere on this site... Gimme a minute, I'll find the pic...

Here....just more blingified.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pick it up for including shipping charges? Its a pretty darn nice rig!

LKA If you PM me your details I MAY consider sending you that fartcan giftwrapped! Man I dig that spoiler above the back window. Must be for reducing high speed lift!

NLXTACY- pm you costs

That is a sweet rig! When you say autolocked does that mean f/r diff lockers?

Guess I should have said Factory lockers

man that's a nice looking rig! i say 5".

I say 6", compare it to ERG's and its still a little taller, as for tires xwhatever for 35's and for the lift the angle for the shots are different and makes ERG's rig look taller and your angle makes yours seem shorter, and x2 for price check on that sweet rig.

I must call a very clean rig with 3" lift. It looks like 35" tires that fill the fenders. The tendency to over-estimate lift must run with the same tendency to buy condoms in a size larger than what will fit your prick. We always want to be bigger. It makes us feel good. Reality brings us back home.
It is a good-looking rig. There is nothing wrong with less than the maximum lift. My truck is at 3" lift. It works well. My family works well with it. My wife likes it and it gives me off-road clearance. The choice is yours. Do what is best for your family. The truck looks great in pics. You decide.

Actually Brian is probably the closest after posting I realized that the 35's will add signifigant height and will mess with your perception, although if ERG has a 5" and 35's it still looks like a 6".

Wow you guys crack me up. Sailor, welcome, and thats a good looking rig there. Dont forget lift height and spring height differences. Ive got 4'' springs, 37'' tires and armor and sit at 80'' as well like EGR. But w/ the weight of armor i only stand 3'' above stock.

Since its just an opinion and we all know about those, heres mine. I would still guess its a 5-6'' spring and hes netting about 4-5'' of lift w/ 36'' tires. I understand brians point, but w/ the weight of the deisel and a steel bumper w/ winch it still appears from the given pics to have a fare amount of space in the wheel wells. Im staring at a (gas) 80 w/ 4'' spring and arb/winch combo w/ true 35's out the window and it looks smaller from this perspective. But who knows maybe a 3'' lift and spacer and 33's. But the size of tire on back compared to my 35 and the amount of gate and window covered sure looks like 35/6. Sure less than the max has its merits, but i dont believe there was any argument or question to what would work best, just how it stands as is.

LKA... you need to channel you deisel envy into postitive forms man ;) How do you know its a fart can, it might sound incredibly good. Sure its bigger than a 1fz's and a bit shiny too but it thats a custom SS performance system that provides the best performance, then thats the one id want on there.(maybe tucked outta harms way a bit) Besides w/ a side exhaust youd be filling your cab w/ fumes and having to wax that side of the truck twice as often. :)

jfz80 thanks for reminding me about the additional weight of the diesel- didn't factor that in. I am hoping that it will fit in my garage so as close to 80" would be nice. I guess I'll try out the Fartcan before gettin' out the sawzall- if nothing else the word fartcan seems to make me grin! (looking over shoulder for the wife) When I started looking for a LC a year ago I narrowed it down to a Locked diesel 80. This one already has the lift/winch/ rubber/ tint/icemaker so I jumped on it. I hope to use it as my DD but am not adverse to picking up an old Tercel or something for beating around town. As for LC cred. I sheared the water pump pulley off of the 3b in my '60 at the Twin lakes road of Mount Baker, Wa. The pulley was totally gone! So I did what any Landcruiser enthusiast would do. I drove home. 130 miles, no pump, alternator, power brakes. Temp gague pinned and looking like a steam train. Mechanic put on a new pulley and tested it. Drove it 3 more years till the rust took over. That truck is still running somewhere I bet. Try that In a Heep! ( I have one!)

sorry- kinda off topic
