Has anyone bought, fabricated, or otherwise had any experience with a portable A/C unit or cooling system for a pop-up or roof top tent setup? We may or may not have an A/C hookup.

I'd like to do some beach camping this summer, but it simply gets too hot most of the time here in the Southeast and Florida coastlines. Thanks!!!

How humid does it typically get there?

An evaporative cooler is far cheaper to run (both dollar and power wise), and far more portable. But it won't work very well if it's humid there.

I agree, humidity and evap. coolers don't play well together. You need dry climate to make evaporative coolers make a difference.

I love camping, but I hated it in Florida for the reasons you are are posting this ;)

No problem here in colorado :D

Well, it works in more semi-humid climates but just not as well. We use a evap cooler for our house, keeps it 10-20* below ambient, and 30%-50% humidity is fairly common. :meh:

There are two stage coolers which are pretty efficient even in higher humidity (like 50-60%), but I haven't seen any that are portable....

Yes, camping in coastal Florida and Georgia is what's on my mind. It's hot and humid most of the year, and it's ever hot in the evenings even if you can find some shade. 'Just trying to extend the camping season and make everyone comfortable.

Check out popupexplorer.com. A couple folks there have dealt with this and have some good info.
