I recently purchased a FJZ80 that needs some work - namely a front axle/birf rebuild and some base-lining activities.

I'm not mechanically savvy and despite having read how "easy" the birf job can be on Mud, I think this job would probably be best left for someone with the experience. That said, does anyone know of any independent mechanics familiar with working on Cruisers around the Philadelphia area (within 40-50 miles)?

Better yet, would anyone be interested in "showing me the ropes" and help me do it? I'll trade my skills/service/time for yours or get as much beer and food required to compel someone to help.

Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

I know of nobody in your area whom I could recommend. if John merkey wasn't so busy with his job he'd be my recommendation but he doesn't have time for other people's land cruisers at this point in time. there has to be someone out there.

Matt Reed lives in Kutztown and has been telling me for the last year he is going to do his knuckles and wants to do it at my place. If that happens maybe you can come up and the two of you can do your trucks using my garage and tools and I'll be there if you need any help. Up to Matt, and would have to be arranged around my work and baseball schedules, not to mention the Coal Mine coming up shortly.

Matt's email is crawlin40@hotmail.com if you want to contact him. Gary S

Thanks for the reply Gary. I'll hit up Matt and see if he's still interested in doing his birfs.

I'm still surprised this post has yet to illicit more responses. No one outsources work or knows of someone who's experienced with working on Cruisers that would take on work?

If I could have afforded to outsource the work I would have. Unfortunately I have more time than money (I lack both but time wins by a hair) and did it my self. It's really not that hard just time consuming. Especially the first time.;) Get a manual, parts from C-Dan do it your self and save at least a grand. Good luck.

If I can get the power run to my shop (Gotta have the compressor for a job like this) by July, I'd be happy to help you out.
Or... if we can work out a Saturday in July, I might be able to bring you and the rig onto Willow Grove NAS and we could do it in the auto hobby shop. They have all the goodies there, lifts, heated parts washers and everything.

Let me know...

Wayne Kidder at Up and Over used to do mechanical/restos on all types of landcruisers in Aston, PA. I'm not sure if he's still doing it. Last time I went to his shop he was getting into doing Rhinolinings. I have his # if you want it. He's a little pricey though.

Hey folks, just wondering if anything ever happened here? I also have an 80 with maintenance and mod needs backing up. I have to do my birfs and have all the parts. Also need to install the lift kit and shocks, and a heavy as hell rear bumper.

Little help?
