I have a 1978 fj40 that I bought with a FL title.

I'm going to attempt to title and register it at Nc DMV today.

Question: should I go for an antique title/registration or a normal one?

Any upside/downside of either?

Thanks

Normal . They will tax you more on other.

Perfect thanks! I couldn't remember what u suggested over burgers/beers.

Going to give it a shot later today.

Yep. Regular registration. For an antique you have higher taxes, requires to have antique ins, and have a mileage cap per year

Why would anyone do antique then?? Are there any pros??

Just go to the flea market and find a NC tag from 1978 since your 40 is now older than 35 years...,

G.S. 20-63(d) reads:
"Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person."

Good advice, thank you all for the solid info.

Ended up getting a normal title as suggested, taxes per year were/are very reasonable.

They did give me a number to call for an inspector to come by and verify vin and matching numbers etc, required to get title approved.

I did leave the DMV with an official plate, which is all I need to scoot around town.

What u don't see is the plate held onto the bumperette with a bungy cord.
