Mudders,

I need some pricing help. Life changes have made me evaluate how my time is spent and the conclusion is I will probably never get to my 1978 FJ40 restoration project. The 40 in my garage is fairly unique in the fact that it has (so I was told… and believe based on how it starts/runs/drives) 30 thousand original miles. They were however VERY hard miles. It was stolen and driven into whatever hard objects the felons could find… Then stripped (it apears) of the doors, front axle, headrests, jump seats, etc. Whoever put it back together had a very large budget for bondo and little else. The doors that were put back on it have the typical rust but the tub and floors are clean except for the rear sill. Under the hood and the driveline (except for the front axle) are all stone stock 78. The front axle was replaced with a drum brake axle of unknown vintage.

I have collected over the years most of the parts to restore this thing:

Brand new OEM Toyota: (all in boxes/plastic)

Front Fenders
Hood
Front turn signals
Tail lights
Front Bumper
Front Bumper brackets
5 OEM Hubcaps
Front Calipers

Plus the following:

5 OEM hubcap wheels freshly powdercoated
5 Brand new 33-9.50/15 BFG AT’s (about 4 miles on them)
Pair of rust free ambulance doors
Pair of factory soft doors
Factory 78 Disk brake front end
FJ60 power steering system (pump/box/lines)
Mini truck power steering box (have not decided which PS system to use…)
Nice set of FJ60 springs
1981 FJ40 Jump Seats

In a nut shell I have most of the hard parts to restore this thing except for the rear sill and quarters…

Its easy to determine what the NOS OEM parts are worth as I have receipts, the other parts are not all that tough either. The difficult thing is the 40 itself. It looks like a total bondo’d wreck but is truly a diamond in the rough…

Thoughts and comments please.

Chris
