I have an '08 and the low pressure warning light came on. Its always the spare so I add air. I follow the reset procedure and nada. Nothing happens. I can't get it to initialize. I've done it before successfully.

I have ~18 mos old sensors in the wheels as I switched to TRD's the last time I bought new tires. The only thing that has recently changed is I just had a 120k mile service and they rotated the four tires. Can't imagine that could cause it but it is a coincidence.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I've found intermittent issues with the reset procedure as well. Here are a few recommendations to get you started:
-ensure that your vehicle is off
-fill tires to recommended pressure
-press the "ENGINE START" button twice to enter ignition on mode (no foot on the brake)
-hold the TPMS reset button until the dash symbol blinks repeatedly
-wait a few minutes in ignition on mode, then press the "ENGINE START" button to turn the vehicle off

If that doesn't work, try removing the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes, reattaching it, and then repeating the above procedure.

The shop that rotated the tires may have done you a "courtesy" by re-programming the sensor IDs into your truck. When they do this, they program the 4 sensor IDs, but the truck expects 5. Programming only 4, clears spot #5, which will result in the TPMS light coming on. The only way to fix that issue is to program the 5th sensor into spot #5 - something most tire shops cannot do. This has to be done either through Techstream, or specialty, Toyota-specific aftermarket tools.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Amazon sells OBD "guards", and on a similar topic, the glovebox (w/ cabin air filter) is also lockable... helps prevent "courtesies" at clueless shops.

Good to know but why the eff would someone re-program sensors unless it was asked for or there was a problem? I will try it one more time today along w/neg terminal trick to see if that clears the issue. If not, I will pop by the place that did the service.

That's exactly the question I asked the morons in my case.

Some vehicles have sensors assigned to specific wheel locations (front driver, rear passenger, etc.), and if they don't auto-detect the sensor position, may need reprogramming whenever the wheels are rotated. Quite likely that some shops would do this reprogramming business on all vehicles that pass through without a second thought.

My '08 does not ID the sensor location when initialized; it just shows five pressures and if one is low you need to check all tires (until you find the one with low pressure). With me, its always the spare.

Yes, that's normal for 200 series. My '14 LX is the same way.

I was giving an example of other vehicles, and a potential explanation for the shops' actions.

I tried the neg terminal removal for 15 minutes and it did not let the system initialize. I'll take it by the shop tomorrow to see if they can clear it.
