OK - Rogue said in a post below that a 285/75 and a 305/70 are both the same height (33") but the 305 is an inch wider. Also that both will rub with articulation. Is the problem the height or the width? I thought many previous post said that 285/75 was the largest size for a non-lifted FZJ80 that would NOT rub?

Are there many people running the 305/70 tires?

I have 265/70 on my truck now (Pirelli's from the P.O.) is that the original tire size for the truck?

thanks to all who respond.

Original tire size is 275/70 R 16

If you want to do some serious wheeling then lift your rig and you will have no problem with rubbing. Otherwise you will most likely not face any situation where you need your articulation that will result in rubbing.

Are you questioning my authority? :flipoff2: Oh well. It has happened before and will happen again. A 285/75 will rub only under full articulation. A 305/70 does not take quite as much as it is 1/2" wider inside the wheelwell.

275/70/16 was stock AFAIK

You are welcome...

Hey Julius, why did you let Kareem you so hard in that one-on-one a few years back? :flipoff2:

Both 285's and 305's can rub at full stuff with stock suspension. That said, we took Klunky on a good run during CMCC this year with 285 TrXus on his stock suspension (same trail that 60's were on with 35's and 36's) and he did fine.

Fit is always a relative term. If you want the ideal situation, go reg OME and 33's. That's a combo that keeps the good road manners and lets you do the majority of the trails out there.

Lets see,

305 - 285 = 20mm or .787 inches :D
