first i want to thank southbostonfj for selling me the m416 trailer, and delivering it about 60 miles to me.

he got it in oct., and had it blasted and primed, so the thing was in great shape. it was in better shape than i thought it would be.

i got the trailer because i'm planning a trip out to moab this fall (oct) and there just isn't enough room in the jeep (yes i said jeep) still undecided about a rtt (little pricey) plus, i was inspired by some of the builds on here.

since i got it i have been buying a few things here and there, wireing harness, lights, pintle hook (to keep the lunet) a vintage cj5 jeep tailgate (to be done later in the spring). a cj7 spare tire carrier (to be done after the tailgate). cj rims and supper swamper ssr's 35x10.5x15r.

the plan is to do the springover in a couple weeks, the tailgate and carrier soon after that. then i am going to do a lid.

today we had some great weather so i took advantage of it a little, striped out the stock wireing harness and replaced it (4 prong)

and i added vintage cj tail lights (reproductions)

it was getting dark so i'll take a pic of them installed tomorow and post it.

plus, i was inspired by some of the builds on here.

The trailer threads here on Mud have me itchin to do a trailer also. Looks like you've got a great unit to start with. Just be sure to post pictures so we can admire your progress:cheers:

as promised here is the pic with the tail lights on it.

i had a little paint left from when i did the tube fenders so i hit one side just to see how it would look, not bad, i think it will look sweet done. now i'm iching to keep going, so i orderd the steel to reinforse the tub when i cut in the tailgate. should be in by the weekend, i hope i have time to do something then.

Ya wanna sell me that stock drivers side tail light?:D

Tail lights look good. I've got a set of early 40's tail lights I want to use on mine. Good luck and keep us posted

well this is the tailgate i'm putting on my tailer

got the jeep wired up after work today, planning to go to my buddie's (he has the welder) sunday to cut in the tailgate, and reinforse the opening.

will post pics sun pm or mon pm

ok so i brought the trailer over to my friend john's (thanks for the use of the tools and brain's j) to cut in my tailgate.
s004.jpg

took some measurements, marked them up with tape
s005.jpg

then started cutting it out
s006.jpg

built a frame for strength
s007.jpg

drilled out some holes for spot welds
s008.jpg

spot welded and stich welded the frame in place
s012.jpg

s011.jpg

drilled out for the tailgate hinges, bolted them in place and test fit the tailgate
s010.jpg

s009.jpg

now i have to clean up the welds and prime it back up to get ready to do the spare tire carrier.

Aint a damn thing the matter with that!!! Fast work man!! Looking good, I see the snow's gone there so now you don't have any excuses.... ; )

thanks, i chose that tailgate because the round tube at the top matched the trailer almost perfectly. it was a good 6 hrs between the yaping and figuring but it was worth it. i like the way it fits.

unfortunately i have to wait a few weeks before i can do much more to it, family stuff is getting in the way. have to keep the wife and kids happy, if i want to be happy.

nice job with the tailgate!

I need to get on the ball and rewire my trailer pronto.

well due to finances the build was put on hold, i did do a couple things but not much. i wanted a hard cover but had to do a soft

cover.jpg

painted it , local guy matched the jeep with rattle cans, 3 cans at $12 ea to do the outside and 2 cans of black cheep stuff.

i have 3 cj rims that where donated to me and a couple 31x10.5 bfg muds that i will be mounting soon. when i pull the tires i am going to check the bearings as i'm less than a month away from my dream trip to moab.

Looks great!!! Came out awesome...so once things open up a bit, let the modding commence!

:popcorn::beer:

Initially you typed about doing a spring over...Looks like it matches your Heep perfect without one. Nice job on the tailgate!

i was , it is close. it just needs a little tweeking on the pintle side. i got the adjustable hight one so i could try and get it as close as posable. i still think it would be cool on 35's.

thank's for the tail gate comploment. i think it came out good.
