I figured I would show a little about how I made my roof rack.....maybe it will help someone move forward with theirs.

first my design. I love classic wood look. So I wanted to try and use some wood slats on the rack.

I made a section on the table to try and keep everything square.

Racked up some of the brackets on the bottom frame.

added the top frame then welded all the way around.

next I cut down several 30 year old Cedar fence post from a scout camp. I didn’t finish finish them, just ruff cut and left live edges on them. Afterwards I piled them really well.

Counter sunk all the bolts and used SS hardware.

Over all I really like the look.

I’m ready to add solar and put some loads on it. I’m going to add a web style net to hold items down.
I haven’t really noticed any extra noise either which is great.

This looks great! Did you cut out the middle brackets of it yourself? they give it a cool oldish fancy fence style, It fits well with the cruise.

i had the brackets all laser cut. It saved hours of work and made sure they were all the same.

I like this a lot. A good mix of technology, re-use and diy.

Did you make your drip rail mounts or buy them? I am definitely wanting to do a rack down the line. This one looks awesome!

I made everything....Well i designed everything, had a laser cut some items per my file, and had the main rails broke by a shop bc they are 1/4" material.

Nice!!! Good job man! It looks great!

I like the look, a lot. But cedar is a brittle, easily damaged wood. Be cautious with what
you choose to load onto that, as it’s not oak by any means.
