I'm glad Cypher got his tranny fixed finally. I just bust mine (on a 2003 LX 470). Did not want to hijack this thread so here's my post:

I read this thread from beginning to end and wanted to thank everyone for their insight and advice - gives me some confidence of being able to troubleshoot my tranny.

Add my '02 LC to the toasted trans list. With only 108k miles, mine let go, while driving to Yosemite from San Luis Obispo. Stopped at the grocery store in Oakhurst, put it in gear and no forward/reverse movement. Plus, a whinning gear noise from below. Fortunately, I have AAA premium too, because the 180 mile tow back home would have cost $1,080. Anyway, my local Toyota shop in San Luis Obispo, Erickson Automotive, is ordering up a remanufactured trans and should have it installed by the end of the week. $3,600 for parts and labor, ouch!!!

Ahh man, really sorry to hear about that. Glad this thread helped out some. That was my intent the entire time. Get some answers, help, and leave all here for the next person who may need it.

AAA is worth triple the price if you ask me! Sorry to hear about the failure. That price is a pretty good one if you ask me. Needless to say I have been there and felt that pain. The scare on my wallet will be there for a while.
