I just got a new (to me) 93. I am sick of having to hurry to get the key in the ignition so the alarm doesn't go off. I don't have a fob (didn't come with one). Is there a way to turn off the alarm or change the settings????

This is the alarm system. sorry about the poor cell phone pic.

You can purchase a new fob from cruiserdan pretty cheaply. He'll also help walk you through the programing of it so that it'll work.

Other than purchasing a new fob, I don't know of any way to turn the alarm off.

(I believe there is a way to do it with the right sequence of turning the car on/off, and position of key in the ignition.....)

If anyone knows what that sequence is I'd appreciate it

Not sure on a '93 but I don't see anything in the '97 manuals about completely disabling the alarm system...

I too suggest just buying a fob (CDan, eBay, etc.) and taking advantage of the alarm. I like mine if for no other reason to lock and unlock the doors...

It is also interesting to me that you're alarm doesn't go off right away when you open the door? Always learning more and more of the differences between the years :)

One more side note...On my '97s if I don't actively set the alarm then it is not active...It doesn't set itself after a certain period of time or anything, it stays deactivated indefinitely.

Maybe a local club member with a similar year and alarm could program their remote to your system, deactivate your alarm for you, and you would be done with it?

I hate to disclose this kind of information over the net, but I saw a very easy way to disable my '95 factory alarm once I found where they mounted the alarm box. There's actually an off switch.

Interesting...I would think that doing so would somehow disable the vehicle (no start or something)

But, the 80 series alarms are pretty archaic compared to today's systems.

There's a simple solution to this. If you have the same alarm as I do on my 93'. Follow these steps to place the alarm into, and out of, valet mode. When in valet mode the alarm is disabled. You'll need to repeat this process anytime there's a power failure, or the battery is momemterily disconnected. The alarmshouldn't return to normal mode unless there's a power failure, so no need to do this everytime you enter or exit the vehicle.

By the way, this is from an official alarm quick reference guide.

1) Turn the ignition key to off.
2) Turn the ignition key to the ACC position.
3) Press the valet switch down until the LED on the status monitor turns on.
* The system is now in the valet mode (system will not arm when the door is closed)
4) Remove the key, exit the vehicle and close all doors.

To rearm the alarm, repeat process above. LED will extinguish.

This should do the trick.
