My ageing 1997 80 with 260,000 miles just got a younge brother.

Drove home with a 2003 100, with 138,000 miles in real nice condition. Little to show it isn't new. Now to get it muddy and scratched and dented on a rock so it looks like a Cruiser and not a soccer mom car.

My son said it was a sissy compared to the 80 and I see what he means but after driving with windows that don't fully shut and doors that lock and unlock on corners in a truck where the antennae and radio are long gone I had fun bringing her home. And a good deal I thought at $15,000.

Here some pics, and now off to update my signature.

It looks good!

Very nice. Yeah, I would say $15,xxx for a 2003 with excellent miles for the year is awfully good. I paid $13,500 last April for mine with 71,000 miles. I would have gladly paid the difference to have the 5sp AT.

Same color and year as mine. I paid $23k three years ago for a 2003 with 90,000 miles. You got a very good deal. If the timing belt service has already been completed, you got a GREAT deal. Nice score and enjoy the new ride.

Why you guys so keen on the 5 speed? I have not noticed much difference yet. Will be going off-road in Anza Borrego this weekend.

Better gas mileage, noticeably more power especially at altitude... Going up mountain passes without dropping into 3rd, etc. Congrats on the truck!

Nice find! Your 100 is a carbon copy of mine - a 2003 which is up to 108K miles, which I've had for over 3 years now. My experience has been that now matter how much sense it makes to "graduate" to the 100 series, I just cannot imagine life without my White FZJ80. My 100 front bumper is ripped and scraped up - We could trade to help break yours in? :)

I have driven a 2000 (4 speed) for 7 years. I just recently drive a 2007 (5 speed, VVTI) and noticed a huge increase in drivability, power, MPG, and enjoyment. Although I will say this. The 06-07 100's just don't feel like a Cruiser. They feel too refined, too fast, like an American SUV. Despite all the improvements, I'd rather have my clunky, slow 100.

Congratulations on the purchase!

I'll admit, my 06 in stock form drove like a very refined sports car. Really, it handled like it was on rails, braked nice, and yes it has good acceleration. I've owned Chevy suburbans, ford expeditions, and a few different Jeeps (and a 95 locked FZJ 80). None of them felt like my stock 06 Land Cruiser.....absolutely no comparison.

With 33's, OME suspension with Slee heavies, and Slee rear bumper it feels more like a land cruiser now.

After towing a trailer to southern Utah a week or two ago, I can see a number of benefits of going with a 06-07.

The 2006 had the VVTi engine with more horse power. That's quite different from the 5-speed gearbox that started in 2003. Don't get confused as to what is giving the advantage.

Einstein was right... it's all relative. My 2006 100 is my first Land Cruiser. A while back, I had a Grand Cherokee with the H.O. 4.7 and it was a rocket (and piece of crap). Before that, an RX8... My '81 CJ has a TPI 5.7 (around 325 hp). And, my wife's car is an MDX. So, my 2006 100 is the slowest thing I've had in a looooong time. It feels really underpowered compared to newer SUVs. It was a bit of a consolation when I bought it - I told myself I'd get used to driving a heavy, sluggish ill-handling truck. 2+ years later, I'm loving it. ;-)
