Angel Peak

Has anyone explored the Angel Peak area? I was running about four hours ahead of my husband on our weekend trip so diverted off of 550, expecting to see a formation on a pile of rubble. Was I mistaken! It's amazing territory. It's BLM with some really nice picnic and a campground around the rim, but you can see a labyrinth of roads below for oil. I headed down one when Todd called and said he was leaving Cuba, so turned back. Not rough roads, but very scenic. I didn't see any signs saying "Keep out!".

Nope always wondered what was over there but it’s always been about 1/2 to where I’m really going

I camped over there probably 20 years ago. All I remember are the natural gas pump jacks popping off all night.

I've done the same as you @Manona, peered below from the top of the rim. Fire hazard shouldn't be an issue here so maybe a spot to hang out for the weekend if the temps aren't crazy hot. Definitely BYOS (bring your own shade)!!!

Agreed! I think it could be an interesting outing. There's also Bisti Badlands with all the hoodoos as well and sans oil/gas traffic; but no shade there either. I've always wanted to camp there for a full moon too; it's supposed to be great by moonlight.

Nice pic! That is a great bit of old wood.... <snicker> just down East from the eggs I assume? I can't say I've seen that exact one. New thing to find next time!

it's more equipment than photographer in my case, I just push some buttons...

Skies are dark at Angel too... no reason you couldn't take the same pics there too.
