Around the world with a Land Cruiser that has Pontons to cross the Atlantik Ocean.....that sounds very interesting!

He started yesterday.......

interesting. always good to see some nifty gizmos.

buut.... The Atlantic....? As in the Ocean between Europe and the US? I don't think so...... Is there another Atlantic maybe?

My thoughts exactly......hope he will make it.

I would not try OCEAN with a Land Cruiser no matter wich one of them. ;-)

The video tells us nothing more than it's been his dream and uses a winch to raise and lower the pontoons. It shows testing on smooth water - big deal. What is he using for fuel and where is it stored? It doesn't look very sea worthy for rough seas. As usual - another fellow human with more ambition than common sense. I hope he doesn't die trying or we lose others trying to rescue him when his plan fails.

This is one for the uninformed wannabe hall of fame!

I'll speak solely in what I
I personally know... His proposed route around the world shows him traveling around the west aside of Cook Inlet, down the Alaska Peninsula, through the Aleutian Islands, across the North Pacific... In his silly stupid and foolish contraption.

Simply put, that is impossible and undoable for so many reasons that I can't even begun to count them. There are so many unremarkable spots that would at best stop him dead, or more often leave him dead that no one would be able to even list them all. He would not make it 10 miles past the end of the road at point McKenzie.
Of course his first exposure to the ocean or stint of rough roads will put a quick end to his jaunt in any event. We'll never have to worry about seeing him in these parts in the first place.

What a fool.

I have three options now: go forward from Rio De Janeiro, send Amphibear back to Cabo Verde or quit. The last option would mean giving up and letting down the supporters. As long as I have Amphibear and it can be repaired, I will continue. Depending, how much is left from the budget after the rescue mission. I thank all the supporters who offered help knowing that I had problems. Returning to Estonia at this stage feels pointless. I should go with Amphibear either to the Canadian shipyard where the pontoons were produced or any other aluminum ship repair yard. At the moment the pontoons are the weakest link of the solution.

It is reasonable to continue the journey from Brazil. But what about crossing the Atlantic, one may ask. Let's return to the challenge after I have completed next stages ahead.

First task is to examine Amphibear and repair the damages. Secondly I need to find support vessel for ocean crossing. After I found the solution for the fuel, co-pilot would add both speed and a helping hand if repair is needed.

some experienced sailors must be shaking their heads in disbelief...

amazing that he got a ship to pick it up. If he has to pay for that, it would dwarf the cost of a landcruiser, although perhaps not of his ubercontraption...

if it wasn't for harebrained ideas, the first humans would have never left Africa and we wouldn't be living where we are

Just because some brilliant ideas seem stupid at first, does note mean that all stupid ideas are brilliant.

That's an amazing undertaking! :)

(I hope he doesn't end up needing an undertaker!)

To have pontoons big enough to support a cruiser and then carry them on your roof is quite odd. Im sure the C of G would be quite high. when on the water it would also be high c of G, making one would think want to roll over under bad weather. You would want a large keel ballasted to keep the weight low.

A cruiser built to a James Bond style would have been better. Totally sealed up and capable of 75+ mph on water.

And able to submarine a bit...

Who the hell are these people? And can I buy some of there time?
