Am I paying too much for a windshield?

I have a crack on my windshield and I want to replace it.
I wen tto a auto glass business (Glass Doctor) in Gibsons and they quoted me $400 to remove the windshield, cut a brand new one based on that shape and install it. ($200 labour (4 hours aprox.) and $180 for the glass + tax)
Does $400 seem excessive or fair?

Thank you!

Excessive. For a 40. It’s a 1/2 hour job.

My last cost me $110 installed... but that was 20+ years ago.

On the way home from Gibson.... just realized it’s likely not the same Gibson

It may have taken a bit longer but it was quick. Templates are available also. I’ve never had occasion to do a windshield... just every other window at least 2-3 times. Easy to do,

Same one actually. We spent the last 8 nights in a waterfront cottage in Robert’s Creek. We were in the Ambulance that everyone in town was starring at :D if you saw us you’d know.

Your ‘location’ threw me off for a minute.

Hope they don't take the 4 hours they quoted me.
Ambulance?! I did see an ambulance driving into town either yesterday or the day before. Hope everything is ok.

Ours has been retired for 10 years. It’s now a Tax Ambulance/camper/do it all.

I’d go on a road trip to Seattle and have it done there before paying “special local pricing”. Or buy one from Toyota and do it myself... they’re not all that hard to install.

I think I payed 400 or 500 2 years ago, in the LM I don't think they can get a windshield anymore they have to cut it. My windshield before that one was a bought windshield and it was like half the price

It's a flat piece of glass, I've always replaced my own, just need a piece of string. Easier with two people, but I have done it solo. Can't remember the price for the glass offhand, but it was less than $200, an hour job.

I bought a piece in Calgary about 6 years ago for $100. I went to the Glass Guild.
I gave them the old cracked one from my truck and a week later picked up the brand new one.
I reused the rubber gasket, although the cord did pull off a small chunk of it on the inside.
