Am I missing a covor plate?

I was just greasing the zircs of my newly acquired 62 and noticed a large hole that looks like it needs a cover plate. Whats is this for? Do I need to buy a cover for it?

I will get one for it asap. what is the possibility of damage already having been done? Should I just put one on and not worry about it?

I wouldn't worry about it now. It protects the flywheel from rocks and such. Just try and find a used one.

NO damage likely at all. You could potentially leave it off a DD'd rig for a lifetime. Frequent mud runners leave em out to cut down on the left behind silt build up. Most other folks should eventually have one installed, but it can wait a bit if needed.
