I am going to look into this as I am getting a fridge and would like to have the option to use the "clean install" of the inverter on AC power. I am going to load test the fridge on the inverter once I get it and then do this mod.

This allows for the inverter button to be used to turn on the inverter, even when the key is off. Debating if this is favorable vs. simply hard wiring from the battery, but will make the determination once I load test the fridge.

Definitely interested in this. I hate having to leave the key in the ignition turned to ACC to keep the ARB cooling when we're at the ball field.

I was poking around...I like that the article is on a 2003 because mine is a 2003 GX. The wiring in mine, relays, etc all look to be the same. I just have to confirm the pin outs and the wire colors and I will know (in addition to seeing if my fridge is happy on the inverter power).
 
If it is anything like my fridge, it will run fine on the inverter, but more efficiently on 12V (when you factor in the inverter). You can more safely run a new 12V lead out to the back and throw on a marine 3 socket 12V plug deal back there and be fine.

I did a fused 12V socket with a switch direct to battery...piece of cake, works great.
 
I don't know what fridge you have, so I don't know how far it will allow the battery to draw down. But if you find that it is too much, you can get some battery cutoff devices from Powerwerx: Online Shopping for Anderson Power Products Powerpoles, Wouxun Radios, Wire & Cable, Adapter Cables, Powerpole Power Splitters, West Mountain Radio RIGrunner & more

I am looking to add a second smaller AGM battery to power the fridge and use some of their solutions to charge the battery and disconnect it from the main battery feed. It may work for you if you find that you draw the main battery down too far.
 
It has a 3 stage voltage protection circuit so I am good.

BTW, I met your brother a few weeks back on a group camping trip. Turns out he lives a block away, and I just happened to pick up a 06' with sport package this weekend, first thing is to get my fridge into the back!
 
Cool :). I ran it PS down the door trim and the socket is in the rear cup holder. Ran it to PS along the firewall in the engine compartment. Say hi to Mike for me!

I will! Sounds like we'll be getting together soon to have a few :beer: in the driveway and talk GX's.

Thats what I was hoping to hear, I was wondering if there was enough room in the door trim to run some 10# wire.

On a side note, have you ever heard of anyone utilizing the wiring for the 110v outlet back there and converting it to 12v? I can't really think of why I would use the 110v as its my understanding its a less efficient use of power due partly to the inverter.
 
Not much point. If you want 12V just run a new line, cleaner. The factory wiring is puny and routes all over the place. I looked at it. If you are pulling 10# (which I used) there is room for some smaller stuff for switched 12V or hard wired 12V no problem.

Sounds like for the short term (this weekend) I could just use the built in inverter route for the fridge safely, until I have time next month to run a dedicated 12V line from the battery. Thoughts? I realize it would only be running when the truck was on, but I can live with that for a weekend as we will be on the move a lot.

PS, I have the old style ARB (Norcold I believe) 45 Fridge.
 
I used mine for a week. It worked. I wouldn't worry.
