Just thought I would share this with everyone...I read where aluminum foil would work as a removal tool for surface rust in place of something like steel wool. It works like a charm! I cleaned up my fairlead rollers, and the chrome doo-dads on the wheels. I did polish after rust removal to help keep rust from returning quickly. Foil worked very well, and removed the surface rust quickly, and efficiently...

Awesome.... I'm gonna try it.... did you use any kind of lubricant?

No, dry. The foil compacts pretty quickly, but easily unfolds, and can get right back at it. I tore the fiol sheets in half before I balled it up to start scrubbing. Worked a lot better than steel wool in my opinion.

Looks like a lot less scratching than steel wool too!

Dang! That worked good!

I remember doing my bicycle handlebars with it when I was a kid, then forgot completely about the trick until seeing this - 40 years later!

Very cool.

I have used aluminum and real coke together and works well on chrome, and as long as the rust has not gotten to deep into the chrome, and if it has nothing will really work anyways.

That is really cool. I've always used steel wool. Thanks for the tip.

Well I'll be dipped! You learn something new every day! Thanks!
