Well, having time to digest a few cold ones since my maiden encounter with the new piglet has brought me to a quandry...maybe even a conundrum. The stats....tis a 76 piglet with a transplanted 83 engine, trans, tfer, and most importantly for this question...an 83 alternator with IC regulator wired into the original harness over to a nice and tidy external regulator. Upon intial fire in the hole (no belt on alt at this point) she would shut off using the key. After all was hooked up....no turny offy with the key. That lead me to a couple of mud threads...namely:

....however after reading these and looking at the wiring diagrams from the affected years...I do not believe that adding a diode or light is the answer. Looking at the wiring situation I have in this case...it appears that I am combining two regulators in series (the IC on the 83 alt and the original 76 on the fender wall). This can't be right. After looking at these diagrams until I am cross-eyed this evening...obviously the big thick white on the B terminal goes to the battery...as it always has...no biggie there. Now, in order to have just one regulator inline I think all I need to do is connect the IG wire from the 83 to the IG wire of the 76 reg on the fender wall. That should be it..finito no more wires necessary. That should have the IC reg doing all the regulating and tie back nto the ign switch wire at the right location. Soooo...anybody walked done this road before??? any comments????suggestions????wild guesses ????lies????
