Hei guys ,
my 3b engine's alternator shaft is stripped of the gears which connects to the vaccum pump. So i have no brakes. Called my supplier a used ones will costs me A$220 and a new aftermarket ones will cost me A$400+. Is there a rebuild kit that i can get without replacing the while alternator and the vaccum pump? im in melbourne. thanks guys

you will find both the alternator shaft and the input splines on the vacumm pump are gone. if i remember correctly the "rebuild" kit sold down under does not include the spine section. you will probably need both the pump and a new alternator which is a serious "OUCH"...
cheers

other option is to source an electric vacuum pump. Then get a big alternator. Instead of the 60 amp or 55 thing you may have.

Cummins use an electric pump. Not sure if you have that in OZ.......

That will be the route I think I'll take if I ever have to replace the alternator. I think the stockie is only 55 A. I haven't seen any trucks down here that use an electric vacuum pump. Are there any aftermarket alternatives?

thanks guys i want to keep the elements as stock as possible. You guyd think i should get a second hand for A$220 and risk it or get a new one (the supplier said that its made in Asia and i said thats roughly the possibilities of half the owrld;p). The new one is A$440. thanks for the advice

if you go the used route then take the pump off at the wreckrs and check the splines for wear. if yo do buy then also take the thing completely appart and clean spotlessly and reassemble...
if the wreckers won't allow you to remove the pump for inspection then tell them to shove it and buy new...
cheers

the ford powerstroke has a little vacuum pump that you can mount easily and drive with the flat part of a belt.
when the splines went on my 3B alternator at 420,000km,l drilled a hole through the shaft and put a rollpin there to drive the vacuum pump,l have 442,000km now.

Note .. the Hiunday Galloper alternator 110 amps comes with huge vaccum pump .. is pretty close ( external desings ) to your alternator .. you need to " apapt " you pulley and modify the braket .. but is prety easy ..

We can found it here, aprox 150 USD brand new.

thanks guys but have any of you seen an aftermarket alternator for 3b engine? Once they said its made in asia first country i thought about was CCCCHHHIIINNNAAA!
No hard feelings against them they make good silk and porcelain and nothing else that they are good at. sorry guys

Years ago when I first started my apprenticeship I was working at a 4wd wrecking yard. IIRC, one of the 7# series alternators came in 110A with the vacuum pump on the back. Could be mistaken as it was a while ago and I've had a few sleeps since then.
