Hey friends,

So I replaced my bushings on the alternator of a 99 LX470 recently and a few days later the batt light came on solid.
Looks like a connector came off =/.

I'm not seeing in the FSM about how it connects or where it goes on the alternator.

Does anyone have any idea where this goes and how it connects?

FSM CH-9 there is this. I think that might be the ground wire. I upgraded mine this winter with a tundra one with 130amps. My 99 lc had a full circle connector, yours looks like it’s a spade.

The arrow is pointing to the connector I think your wire is from.

the thing hanging off is not a connector, its the mount plate for 2 different cable clamps. it bolts onto the side of the alternator. there is no ground wire for the alternator, ground is connected through the body of it into the block, etc. there is the 3 wire connector at the top rear of the alt and the large positive lug that goes onto the stud pictured above. the 3 wire connector gets destroyed from heat and crumbles easy. if you touched or unplugged it beforehand, its probably what the issue is.

You're on it.

Yeah that plastic thing was not a connector...

Managed to break the connector while trying to make sure it was snug...

Thanks!

anyone know the wiring request to replacing the connector. I bought the exact piece
i upgraded to a 130A alt and thus a different connector but i think this works for the oval 3 pin like yours

Amazon product ASIN B013SH2ZMC
does anyone know the wiring sequence for this connector that goes with 2002 lx470? Mine crumbled and the wiring colors don't match so trying to figure out what goes where.

Not sure if this will help but I took a photo as I was about to replace mine with the one off eBay.

Yes, IF the connector is still in one piece just match the wire 'locations'.

Obviously, a 'generic' replacement connector won't have pigtails that match in color.

Some connectors (mine was this way) crumble so badly upon removal that you are just left with the wires.

Always good to start an alternator swap with the connector in hand. EXPECT to have to replace it. If you don't...great, you have a spare.

FYI the engineering term for this connector the arrow is point at is called the B+ terminal (aka battery positive). It is the positive terminal that goes from this terminal to the Battery positive terminal of the you guessed it, the battery.

The ground for the Alternator is always the body of the alternator which is connected via the long bolts (the round holes at 5 and 10 in the pic) to the engine. The engine is then grounded via wires and bolts to the vehicle chassis, and likely the firewall and left & right fender. This grounds the whole system together.
