I have the dual battery system installed, with monitor; Just noticed that the regulator/alternator is OVERCHARGING my system. Tested with multi-meter; getting 13.5 volts out to batteries. Does this mean my regulator is fried? Do not drive? I was supposed to be somewhere soon today... Thanks

:confused:Your getting 13.5 volts???? that is near perfect.

You can charge up to 14.5...oem specs

Mine has been known to show 16 at the alt....i never worry but inside it always shows 14.5 or so.

check the voltage at the fusible link and the battery...if it worry's you replace the alt.

Thanks

This is all VERY helpful. I am almost positive it's fried. Everything I do to test the alternator now, it is putting out way too much voltage. The alarms are triggering on the battery monitors from over charge, and the factory voltage gauge is maxing out when I give it gas.

Sounds like a voltage regulator has gone south. Most 60's have replaceable VR's, not sure about the 62 though.

Yep....Maybe its time to replace not worth leaving you beside the road.

I only worry if it is consistently high voltage but it is still a sign that you need to replace soon.14.7 to 15 volts will not fry anything but anything beyond that may fry your battery(to much heat) or fusible link over time

Most 62's in Australia have external regs, I've replaced four over the last 5 years due to drawing too much with a 4 battery system. but high voltage charge into the battery is pointing to your Reg.
