Hi all.. I urgenty need at least the pages of the 2L service manual which cover alternator repair.. I've visited the "online Manuals" sites listed here in the forum but the links include a piggybacked tracking software :(
any help is greatly appreciated.. as the snow here in Evanston Wy has stopped.. but need to fix the charging system prior to attacking the rockies...
Cheers & thanks in advance

mr. dummy here - so I've removed all ancillary cr@p... tensioning bolt - and I have the following challenges:
1) i don't know the secret code to removing the plug in harness at the rear of the alternator (knowing me I'll probably break it trying to pry it off)
2) i would figure with the tensioning bolt removed that I could rotate the alternator / vacuum pump assembly.. but the cruiser gods are laughing heavily at me.. refuses to budge... I'm hoping I don't have to remove the power steering pump to access the lower alternator bolt (s)... ugh!!!

Finally got the f#@#ing alternator/vacuum pump assy off... great example where a stupid engineer makes a bad design... the lower alternator bolt clashes with the power steering belt.. ugh.. just misses the ps pulley.. double ugh.. so the ps tensioner (useless for slacking belt) has to be "massaged" so a belt spacer is rotated to "spring" the ps belt to allow the long alternator bolt to be removed.. triple ugh

So I'm looking to install an alternator with an internal voltage regulator.... anyone adapted a 150+ amp alternator... I'll mount a 12v vacuum pump.... ideas?????? a big alternator is part of my phase 1 electrical upgrades project.. with a crown vic police interceptor electric fan :) I've already modded the fan to an 18" dial to mount to the rad on a flat aluminum sheet.. double :)
Reach our to me.. I'd even go up to 200amp!!
as always.. awaiting your values comments..
Cheers
p.s. just bathed the old alternator in my motel 6 bathtub.. he he he.. hope they understand...

i need to recch out to all cruiserheads again.. it looks loike I have misplaced the threaded vacuum pump oil return connection at the block - (above the turbo oil return line).. can anyone send me a picture / pdsf of where the oil return connection in relation to the turbo oil return line????
I can cut the return into my modded turbo oil return hose - but i need to find and seal the factory vacuum pump oil return threaded connection in the block..
thanks in advance..
cheers

problem fixed.. stupid me.. the hose i was looking to connect is in fact the larger vacuum hose which connects to a hard pipe directly on top of the fender :)

Today took my new adopted 80# puppy "Osito" (little bear in spanish) to

to the mech shop on the other side of the fence.. Chad @ Chad's Automotive pulled the pully, the vacuum pump & split the housing to get the armature out.. there was a fried wire... & he resoldered it and reassembled as well.. so nice to see someone else wrench for a change!!! so I asked how much I owed him & he said the most wonderful words "on the house" :)
Pulled a set of brushes off an alternator (got no idea from what) from "Junkman Jim" ..a real character.. reminds me lots of trappers I would run into in alaska.. selling furs
Modded the junkyard brush housing by breaking off excess bakelite with careful plier work & used the sidewalk & brick walls for my files & sandpaper... all that's left is to make a brass washer to make up for the offset height of the OEM mounting tabs

Nice!
Lost my alt. at the Arctic Circle on the Dempster hwy. Used a solar panel to keep brake lights, phone and drone charged. Currently being repaired since I'm home.

I'm in the middle of junkyard Jim's here & it looks like I found a donor alternator.. from a celica .. anyone know what year it is??

Found it best to remove the negative post power at battery/batteries first.
Take off the 10mm alt feed wire and replace nut so you don't lose it.
My 3b
Remove air filter top and hose to the intake, remove air filter assembly .
2x14mm bolts and one 12mm this allows lots of room.
Remove any plastic air filter bits in order to make room for attacking the long mounting bolt.
Loosen 12mm alt belt adjustment bolt.
Remove belt
Pull alt towards fender to remove 19mm vaccum hose ass. Nut(careful with copper washers) This gives you lots of room
Disconnect plug
Push alt towards engine and remove the long 14mm mounting bolt.
Remove banjo bolt, again careful of washers and then return line.
Take your time and either place parts in order in a clean spot or replace where they came from.
Be methodical you cannot afford to drop and lose parts.
It's to bad because I had a 2L alt in my hands last Saturday morning. I should have bought it to repair my unit.
Left it on the front seat of a 2.4D pick up in Watson Lake Yukon Territory.
Engine is supposedly pooched but there are parts like IP, starter for those interested. BEE JAYS garage up in the bone yard.
