When I had the power steering conversion done, the installers left the alternator in the original position. Looks good but the pump hits the alternator which allows for almost no adjustment to loosen the belts and makes it tough to get to the alternator. I have attached a bracket and need the adjustment bracket. Does anyone have one? Also, does anyone know if I can use my original alternator or will I have to find another to work with the external regulator. If I am missing anything please let me know.

Isn't there a 79-87 alternator to use with an external regulator. I'm not sure what wiring changes I will have to make to use an internal regulated alternator.

That would be the 75-77 alternator, readily available from Mr. T.

Hate to ask a stupid question, but will that alternator fit in the bracket?

Yes, the 75-78 alt is for that bracket, but the connector on the back is changed, and the wire harness won't reach it.
It is easier to install the 1-wire internal regulated alternator, plus it puts out more & cleaner power.

Thanks. I am not an automotive electrical person so could you be more specific on how to wire around the external regulator and how to wire for the alternator with an internal regulator.

The internal regulated alternator has a push on spade connector labeled IG, for +12V ignition power into the alternator. Connect a switched 12V wire to the IG terminal and the big charge wire to the output stud.

Thank you.
