Whats up community, im actually having some issues with my alt, and hope someone can help me, im running the original denso one that is 80 amp with a 90amp battery, while i´m using it with the strong lights( sry for my english haha im from Bolivia) and the A/C my battery is getting discharge, i tested it and its charging 11 on the tester(while useing lights and a/c), and some electricians told me it should be 12,5 or 13, im not sure if the problem is that the battery its bigger than the alt or whats going on but its getting discharged and the A/C is not running well too with a full tank of a/c gas. any advice? im searching for a new 150 amp alternator hoping that to solve my problem any recomendations before screw it? Thanks!

Sounds like your alt is pooched if you're measuring 11V. Unless you have 24V start?

If you have 2 batteries it's a 24V start /12v everything else and could be the series/parallel switching solenoid. If you have one battery, it sounds like your alt. Pull it to have it load tested.

awsome, im gonna do it asap, and what do you think about swaping the 80amp alt to a 150amp alt? does it affect the car, battery or cables on a bad way?

Great idea if it bolts up. Keep the pulley off your old alt just in case....
Definitely upgrade all your cables. Recommend 1/0 with new terminals. Should replace starter cable at the same time. I used 2/0 which is totally overkill, but lots of juice for winching with batts in parallel.

Oh man, forgot to tell its 12v i just have one battery what donyou think about that?

Still upgrade your wiring to handle the additional 60 amps. You can use cheaper welding cable if available.

Some of the these engines are 24v start only. They have a change over relay that brings in the 2nd battery to give you the 24v start.

Everything else on the car works in 12v as per every other vehicle.

A couple of things, first change your vehicle electrician, minimum charge rate should be 13.8 volts, this is regardless of whether 12 or 24 volt system.

Next the replacement alternators in the links, apart from the physical side of fitting there are two styles of connectors at the rear.

The first picture does not show the rear of the alternator, and the second looks somehow wrong, can't put my figure on it but, there is not normally a fly lead.

Check the rear of your own unit, normal is an oval 3 pin plug there are some 4 pin square types out there but they are rare.

You can fit a 4 pin unit but will need a 4 pin plug, only 3 of the 4 pins are used.

Regards

Dave
