I need to replace the alternator on my 86 FJ60, and found one that the seller describing it as "a 8/1980 to 9/1983 Factory Toyota re-manufactured alternator for Toyota Land Cruisers with a 2F engine".

So, this won't work on my 86 2F?? I don't know the engines that well and wanted to turn to the experts!

If, indeed, it doesn't "Fit", then what's your recommendation for a replacement?

Thanks all!

if it helps, the alt from my 86 fj60 fit my 82 fj40.......AFAIK they are the same.

But if its not a Toyota reman I would prolly pass on it. Check with Dan(American Toyota) on th eprice of an OEM reman before buying the other one. Most aftermarket remans are pretty crappy. OEM reman

my alternator is missing something called the condenser. it looks like a capasitor. it is, or in my case was, attached to the back of the alt by a wire. called alt rebuild and parts place in my area and they dont carry it. does anyone have any idea what this does? and do i really need one?

Gracias

I replaced my 89FJ62 Altenator this past wknd it took all day for such a simple project, it took me 4 hours to just get out, the old one had a small condensor looking thing on it, it is a radio noise suppresor?

took me all day to replace mine too...probably 5 hours just to remove the old one.

took lots of breaks though as i was freezing my nuts off.......

that Johanthan Ward, owner of TLC in CA, so I will "assume" he is correct its a OEM reman, in which case the part # will end in a -84(I think)

I hate to "assume"... but if the description says "toyota remanufactured"... wouldn't that be Toyota? Here's what I'm looking at:

This guy has other LC stuff...so I'm thinking he's legit. I've checked a couple of places on OEM, and they're around $225.

the condensor for the radio is on the coil/ignitor I think. Not sure what the gizzmo on the alt is, maybe it is also for the radio.
