Well she finally sprung a leak after 18years/200k and I've been looking at aftermarket radiators. Most aftermarket are just like OEM koyo's..... Plastic top/bottoms with metal internals. Mine by the way started leaking on the lower portion corner where the plastic meets the aluminum from what I see.

So here is the delema, Plastic or metal. I think that the metal ones "should" be more reliable for off roading use. The amount of stress that the plastic gets with the motion of "Off Roading" I'm leaning me towards a Metal one.

Does anyone own Spectra-CU2282, seems to be the only metal radiator for our UZJ100's. How does it fit, and did you have any problems?

In its description it said "all metal construction". And from all the pictures I've seen it looks like all metal.

The tank material on that Spectra is still plastic.

This Sunday Ill be posting my install of an all aluminum radiator. They will be $320 shipped.

I guess the spectra is plastic. Thanks. Can't wait till I see the quality of your aluminum radiator. How is the warranty? $100 more shipped not bad. Made in the USA?

Radiators for these are all over ebay for around $100-$129 with free shipping... many of them on the ad SAY 4 row but few of them are... I've had several shipped to me and they showed up being the 2 row... I have 3 failed radiators in my shop now... all of mine split/leaked at the upper rear plastic to metal crimp seam... 2 were OEM original and one was an amazon 4 row replacement.... both of my 100 now have cheap 2 row radiators.... and this is why... A. this size engine 4.7 does not produce the kind of heat that actually requires 4 rows... B. the 4th row in most radiator designs does little other than adding fluid capacity, C. in radiators with a plastic to metal crimp / epoxy connection the added mass / weight of the extra rows actually increases the chances of failure, D. You will get MORE airflow and Less restriction with 2 rows (assuming the same fin per inch design) thus more cooling and according theory better MPG...

I've towed in 100 degree days and using the 2 row I have not seen excessive temps, The several tundras with the same 4.7 I've seen have a 2 row radiator... I don't know if they were factory or not... I do know in my climate and my driving the 2 row works... and I believe it will last longer than the 4 row... In my former race car life i know hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on radiators and how air flowed through (or dammed up in front of) them... in production vehicles it is a very inexact science and at best a compromise...

so far I'm good with $118 lifetime warranty 2 row radiators off ebay IF I found a copper/brass unit I'd prefer that but I'm good with these....

Thanks for the input. I found a couple under $100 with a lifetime warranty which isn't too bad. I hope that they'll warranty it when it cracks in the future.

18yrs/200k is pretty good in my book. If you had to bet, how long do you think an all metal, made in china radiator would last?

Resurrecting this post share that Spectra tank CU2282 from Amazon leaked with the first sip of water.
tried to order a replacement and delivery date was 6 days out. Didn't want to wait so ordered a Duralast from Autozone annnnnnddd its also a Spectera with a different name.

I'm to cheap to pay 350 for an OEM.

at least I know how to remove and replace quickly now.

Changing one radiator in 18 years, which takes me an hour to do, is not a bad thing at all. I'd stick with OEM Denso. Same thing i tell the Heater tees guy, plastic ones last over 10 years and takes 20 minutes to do so just stick to that.

“...18years/200k...”

So why again do you think another radiator is better or more relaible?
