It's in the FSM, but from recollection I think it's around 20 or 30 ft. pounds, not a whole lot. I think the front diff has different torque specs than the rear.

I take off the flappies AND the flares. Takes about 10 minutes per side, just a normal part of trip prep now. I ripped out my storage box in the rear passenger side cargo area to give me easier and quicker access to the flare nuts inside the body on that side, without having to rip off the interior trim panels each time. Got it down to a science at this point!

Pretty sure it's 20 foot pounds. THe rear uses a bigger stud and is 40 foot pounds.

Why not use RTV and forego the gasket? I've used both Permatex Ultra Grey and the black Toyota stuff with zero leaks, disassembly is just as easy as it is with a paper gasket.

Another option is to thread socket head cap screws in from the rear and lock them down tight on the flange. Some folks even tack them in place or drill them out and run larger 3/8 or 10mm bolts, welded from the the back.

I did not see you on the Con. So you were the other 80 I'd heard was on Rubithon.
I got close to a rock on my left rear quarter panel, no damage. The Speed Liner did what it was supposed to. So did the Slee bumper and sliders. The body caved in a little bit, but I can push it from the inside and it will be OK. You can hardly tell it's there.

My Iron Pig plate did what it was supposed to do. I took some of the paint off, but it held up very well. It's mount bolts are perfect. The Pygpen diff hat did it's job too.
At one point I used my front bumper as a slider. It worked great. I'm very pleased on how the armor on La Cabra performed.

Alvaro, I was camped on the other side in the trees next to the mouraders. I saw you breifly but you were headed off to recover that 40. My damage was due to being in a hurry...and not paying attention. I knew I shouldn't of taken the same line as that 40 :D!
 
Anybody know what happened to Mark from Metal Tech with the Orange 80. I saw him at Ice house and then he vanished?
 
Last year after our Death Valley trip, I had the same issue with my front diff. Cruiserdrew and I took the front end apart and back together in less than 4 hours. Including new rotors and pads for the front.

Taz, I"m deeply saddened that I didn't see you or your rig on the con as I was one of the few 80's out there. Marks truck made it through after a repair and I believe they headed back out and home on Saturday. I saw him on the trail Thursday.

I have the truck (dually) and trailer for work so I figured better safe than sorry. I'm glad we did that...the drive back to Polluck Pines was nerve racking...all kinds of popping coming from the front end. It was nice to then put it on the trailer for the 400+ mile drive home. I sure hope I didn't grenade one of those longfields!! Havn't had time to tear into it yet
