Hi this is my first real post on this forum and I hope I can find the answer to my question. I was wondering if I could get some advice. I'm about to buy a new to me 2000 Lexus Lx470. It has a few problems nothing to be too concerned about. My main worry is when test driving it I had to hold the steaming wheel about 10 degrees to the right to get it to go straight. Is this simply getting everything aligned or a bigger problem? There is no vibration in the steering wheel or peddles. Although the back passenger side feels a little rough compared to the rest of the truck. Second thing is when at a stop if I hold the breaks the "R" light comes on the dash as if the truck shifted into reverse. This tripped me out when I first saw it but as soon as I let go the breaks the light turned off. Is that a sign of any major problems? Any advice would be much apperciate! Thank you all!!!

Steering wheel just needs to be centered. Any competent alignment shop should be able to do this.

Quite possible you have either a wheel balance issue, or a tire issue. Assuming the wheel itself hasn't been damaged. Also check the shocks.

Thank you for your reply. It's good to know that the wheel just needs to be centered and it isn't anything bigger like rack and pinion or suspension issues. I can't remember when i went to check out the car but i recollect my friend said that he thought the back tire as a little flat. could that cause the rough feeling? The ride over all was still amazing. It was actually my first time being in an LX470.

Have you heard of that dash light problem that I described?

Possibly. But a 'bounce', 'rumble, or 'vibration' could be a number of things. Does it happen at a certain speed? Or is it constant?

I'm electric stupid. And there is probably a whole lot of electric under the dash of an LX470....

Do all model years of LX's have VGRS? It might be something as simple as taking the car into the dealer to have them recalibrate VGRS to center the wheel, or you could do it with a techstream if you have one available

MY LXs '03+ came with VGRS.

10-4, thanks for clearing that up Paddo! 808, disregard my above post. Simple alignment should get you there with the steering wheel

I think I figured out why the "R" light comes on when I press the breaks. Their is a code P1780 that came on. It looks like the PNP switch isn't sending a correct signal to the ECU. Is changing the PNP switch an easy fix?

Have you tried clearing the code out and seeing if it returns? Could have been a mystery event: Like someone tried to start/stop the car when the shifter wasn't fully in park. PNP switch should be mounted somewhere on the side of the transmission. You can also check the actual connections to see if there is a fault.

Thank you for that info I have not yet obtained the LX470. We are working out the price still yet. (2000 Lexus LX 470) This is the LX I am going for.
