Proffitts Cruisers is auctioning some used Alcan springs on ebay and I'm thinking of bidding on them. Here is the link. I know that Alcan springs are considered very good (Jon has some - I think) but the claimed lift is more than I think I would want. Opinions? Do you think I could reduce the lift height by removing one leaf? How much more trouble and expense should I expect getting bushings and shackles? Obviously, I'll need to get some new shocks as well. I got a quote from Alcan a couple years ago in it was about $1,100 for a set of four new ones. I'm just looking for some advice here. The auction ends in 2 days.

I have the Alcans and they've been great. You probably don't need to worry about too much lift - I don't think you can have too much lift on a 60 until you get into the spring-over range. You certainly don't NEED to get new shackles but they're certainly easy to find but you will need new shocks. I won't try removing leafs - that would mess up the K-value and therefore spring rate that Alcon intended. Don't be fooled by the arch in the picture, mine looked llike that when they came.

Alcan's are indeed great. I wouldn't worry about too much lift with them - you may have to get or make some slider/running board combination to assist in passenger side access is all...

Danise didn't think this was as funny as I did.

I know the slider/step combo must come before I get the 2" OME lift, otherwise, i'll have to hang a fire-escape latter that deploys when I open the door so that I can get in.

I don't know what all this talk about ladders is? I can still slide my arse onto my seat from the ground in mine. :flipoff2:

It looks like a good deal. You could run some 33" tires with no problem. When you put sliders, a front, and rear bumper, It should be just right.:)

Maybe too late for my pennies.

I have a set on the rear of the 4Runner and really like them. I have a full set on da'40 but I haven't driven it so I don't have an opinion. Seems like I had a set on my 85 pickup too.

Speaking of da'40 ......

I just couldn't bring myself to take the leap. I know I might get a good deal on the springs, but then I would start a chain reaction that would milk my bank account very quickly. Bushings, shackles, shocks, tires, wheels, gears........

Is this a bad thing?

Sounds perfectly "normal" to me...

i say, take a good deal when it is found. you could always put the springs in the shed and wait for a deal to come up on the extras. kinda like making payments, but only when you want to make it. :grinpimp:
If you wait 'till later when you are ready to take the "plunge", it will cost twice as much. i have several parts lying in the garage waiting for when i get the rest together.;)

The winning bid was $306 (plus $75 for shipping). That was out of my price range anyway.

And if I saw what you were looking at they were 6" of lift. You'd need a portable ladder for the family!
