I have a 94 and if I unlock the door with the spare key the alarm goes off--can you program the alarm to disarm when you unlock the door with the key? The fob has 2 buttons 1 close to the top and 1 close to the bottom. The Toyota alarm box is wire tied under the drivers seat if this helps--reading through the PO's mantainence history it sounds like a new fob was ordered at some point--maybe causing the problem?

Mine does the same thing...if the alarm is turned on. Other wise the fob works as just keyless entry. I don't like this mode as the lights don't flash to tell you if it is locked/unlocked. Mine is the audiovox dealer installed.

Might be easiest to buy another remote to use with the spair key.

I have the same problem/feature with my 94. Depends how you look at it. In a way I sort of like it... you can lock the truck with the key and it won't arm, so you can unlock it with key fob or just the key. But if you want the alarm armed, you must use the key fob to arm and disarm. Now if the battery in the remote dies just after arming, that sorta sucks (hopefully the battery just came loose, like it did in my case)

As far as I know I don't think the key will disable the alarm since there are not switches for the alarm tied to the back of the key lock in the door. Now my 89 Supra has a switchattached to the key lock, but it doesn't have keyless entry either.

I know it doesn't really help you, but just letting you know my 94 does the same.

Another remote...More Money

Thanks for the replies

Check ebay...or online. I bought 2 remotes for my Maxima online for a total of $10 bucks shipped.

I have also programmed both buttons on my remote to activate the alarm. That way if I hit either one it will arm or disarm. The alarm you have is probably the TVSS (Toyota Vehicle Security System)? If it is, and you are looking for a used remote you can only get the black remote with the oval T symbol on it or earlier models. The grey T remotes do not work with the TVSS, Cdan told me this. I got my 2nd remote off ebay for around $30 and it works fine. So now I have 2 remotes and all 4 buttons do the same thing. Here is a picture of the remote that you'll want to look for on ebay:

The only thing that is really programmable are adding remotes, all the other functions like vibration sensitivity, horn honking, and security on and off are switches on the unit under the seat. Seen here:

Thanks--that is the same remote I have. How did you program the lower button to lock?

I got the alarm manual from Beowulfs site for the TVSS: http://hdcruisers.angeltowns.net/index.html
I downloaded all 12 pages (page 12 has the remote programming procedure) but a quick run down is, turn the ignition to the "ON" position and press the program switch (for 2+ seconds) which is next to the harness of wires plugged into the alarm. The alarm status LED will turn on, within 5 seconds press the button you want to program on your remote. Lights on LC should flash and horn honk.
Thats pretty much it.
