air conditioner vent locked in defrost and wont switch to anything. Dial moves but the air is coming out by the window. Any ideas b 4 i have to go to the dealer?

The simplest thing would be to check if the knob is broken on the backside. It would still turn, but not make connection with the shaft. I think you can actually pull that knob straight off and inspect the back of it.

Otherwise, you're looking at either a failure in the control panel or the mode actuator/servomotor.

I took the knob off and it was fine. Took off the glove box and poked around making sure there was nothing jammed in there.. I do lots of wheeling and things go all over the place. I made sure all connections where all the way in. Lot of wires in there!
Banged it with my fist and put the glove box back. It seems to work fine now. Perhaps some dirt was stuck or something.
My filter was brown and had foxtails in it.

If things go out of whack again. I'd dig deeper behind the dash, instead of banging on it from the glove box.

You can remove the front panel by removing the two silver vertical trim pieces. They each have a philips screw at the bottom, then you just pull the trim from the bottom end and the friction clips will pop free. Then remove all knobs from the AC controls. There are 4-6 philips screws that hold the entire panel to the dash frame. Then you should be able to see all the wiring a little better. See if something has chafed through the wiring loom or nicked a wire.
