Can anyone tell me why my truck has started raising the rear whenever I start the truck? I took the truck on a 1400 mi road trip over Christmas and loaded it up quite a bit with luggage and stuff. It's been doing it ever since. Before the trip, it had never done this...

If I drive it a bit and then put it in park, it'll go back down after 5 seconds or so. Otherwise it goes down while driving eventually.

This is how high it goes up. Height control set on Neutral.

Rear height sensor damaged?

This thread mentions:

Summary:
89407-60010 Rear Sensor ASSEMBLY including linkage $250-$300
Dorman 924755 SENSOR ONLY (as pictured in images in posts above) $55

AHC, back really high

jonathn also mentions cleaning and slightly bending the fingers, probably worth a shot.

Ahhh, brings back memories when that was the style. Flip those BFG's around letters out and you will be set!

The solution has been posted above.

Rear AHC sensor is bad. Happened to my 05. Came Outside one morning and the rear was sky high:)

Don't be afraid to just go with it and start a new trend. Put some 38's on the back and loosen up the front Tbars and cruise. Or pull out all the stops and go this route:

I actually kinda like that. I'll start this trend if it'll kill this one! I'd rather my truck ride with the rear high than this...

So I took the sensor apart and the spring were pretty corroded and shot. There was a fair bit of water in the sensor as well. Picture below. One spring broke into 4 pieces as I tried to remove it. I salvaged a spring from a ballpoint pen and put that in and now my truck is back to normal, if only temporarily.

I did some searching and it seems that the height control sensors are the same as those used in Toyota's headlight leveling system. I ordered a Dorman 924755 sensor to replace mine. I will be sealing all 3 of mine up as well to prevent further corrosion.

This is the prius headlight sensor:

This is what I bought...
