I just recently purchased a 2006 100 series. I traded in a 4 Rnr for it since the family is growing. I also have a FJ60 that I'm able to do a little wrenching on. My tires are shot (Duelers...stock size), and am looking to get some new ones. The 18" wheels limit the number and type of tires available. I'm looking at getting either

285x75xR18 = 35.1" nominal height
or
275x70xR18 = 33.4" nominal height
or
285x65xR18 = 32.8" nominal height

With the vehicle in the low position, is there any rubbing with any of these tires? I've read a little on overriding the AHC, but I don't want to do that since I have a 7 yr, 100,000 platinum warranty.

Any help? I know that most of you hate these tire questions, but I couldn't find anything in the search function. Thank you.

Get the 285/75-R18. Do it for the team! Are you really going to wait 7 years to mod it?

I'd consider looking at 275/65/18 in addition to the sizes you mentioned.

I had the 275/70/18 (33") Toyos for about 9 months before having the 275/65/18 (32") Toyos put on. There is no rubbing with either in any of the AHC positions, but I like the 32" set much better. The C-rated LT tires are less harsh than the E-rated tires. The 32" diameter also looks better (IMO) and offers more clearance for snow chains, should you need those.

You can get the 275/65/18 Toyos in a P-rated blackwall, an E-rated OWL, or the C-rated OWL that I have. If you want to stick with Bridgestone, I believe both the Dueler HT and AT are available in a P-rated 275/65/18.

I had both the Dueler HT and AT on my old 4Runner -- good tires -- but I like the Toyos better. I think either the C-rated (more durable) or the P-rated (more comfortable) 275/65/18 Toyo Open Countrys are near perfect for an LC with the stock AHC suspension.

The "E" is stiff, but you can also control some of the harshness with the TEMS if you have it. I like cranking it up every now and then to remind me it can still be a harsh riding truck!

CrusrDug,
Did you add that AHC controller from Slee Offroad? I'm guessing this by your sig line. If so, how does it work?

YCOOKMD, do you have pictures of either the 65s or 70s on your 100 series?

I did the AHC lift located in the FAQ, but only the sensor slider part. I did not like the ride and realized it was not something I wanted to tackle at the time, so I removed it. To lift it properly, you need to crank TB's and replace the rear springs to bring the dampening back in line with the system. Plenty of threads on that as well if you search.

By the way, I like the 33 over the 32 and if I had the choices at the time I would have gone with 285. Tires look small on these rigs.

jasheehan: would you mind telling us what you paid for your Platinum warranty?

I believe the largest tire you can run without rubbing with the AHC in low is 275/70 R18.

I don't recall exactly what I paid for the warranty. It was rolled upin the price of the vehicle. The '06 was so outlandishly priced, that I lowballed the dealer and asked/demanded an extended warranty. The vehicle was sitting on the lot for a while, so he accepted my stupidly low offer. When talking with the financing guy, he mentioned that it was a $1900.00 package, but I can't say for sure. If you call any Toyota dealer, I'm sure they can tell you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I too have an 06 LC with the platinum warrantee, purchased recently. The warrantee was $960 retail, looked at the pricing sheet the finance guy had, they sold it to me for $860. BTW, this was a CPO car, so I believe the warrantee is a little more reasonable with the CPO, if you can call $960 reasonable.

I have a question about the ride with the AHC. I also have an 03 LC (70K) with Bilstien shocks, I think it rides better than my 2006 with AHC. IMO, the AHC on comfort seems to allow the suspension to move around quite a bit with some wheel bounce, on sport it is a little better, but rougher. I tried to make an appointment with the local Lexus dealer (as they have been working on AHC for a lot longer than the toyota folks), but their policy is Lexus only. I guess I will stop by the toyota stealer so they can have a look. Hopefully their mechanics have some experience with AHC... Anyone else share my opinion of the AHC ride?

As for tires, I went with the stock size, Michelin Latitude HP, seems to be a nice tire. I have the LTX pilots on the 03 and have been very pleased. I think I will replace them with ATs when they wear out and finally begin the mods on the older LC.
