Aftermarket lower control arm?

Hey, I am wondering if there's anyone tried out aftermarket lower control arm assembly?

I see aftermarket parts (Moog, Beck Arnley...)are significantly cheaper than toyota part. ($200 difference)

Are these aftermarket parts for toyota's are "no-go"?

Hey, I know this is an older post but I wanted to see what you ended up going with. I'm about to replace mine with something cheap since this is just a beater truck.
 
Best option is to go OEM arms, or service the existing ones.

555 ball joints and OEM bushings will restore them in no time.
 
I wouldn't mess with aftermarket for that specific part. I've had good luck with Moog on domestic cars, bad luck with foreign cars.
 
I went ahead and ordered some aftermarket ones from the local parts store. Once they are replaced I'm going to rebuild the OEM ones and keep them on stand by. I saw some other post that pointed out a few weak points on the cheap aftermarket ones. I wonder if they could be rebuilt in a way that makes them just as good as OEM but at a cheaper price. One issue was the weak wield points, which can be fixed. Maybe the ball joints and bushings can be changed out as well. Just trying to find ways to keep our trucks running without backing the bank.

I'll keep everyone updated with how mine turns out.

I haven't replaced mine yet. All the joints seem to be holding up pretty well so far...
 
The torsion bar mount holes have also been seen to tear out, they aren’t part of a weld, just weaker metal. I’d research that as well. Lots of very important stuff going on with this one component.

I'm curious how this turned out for you? I'm hunting down a mysterious clunk on my front end. The only parts I haven't touched are front LCA bushings, and tie rod ends.
Can't say I'm complaining.... The truck is a '99 with 203K miles and has seen gnarly trails. 😬

I am just going to share these two threads of mine. I had Moog arms, as I mentioned here above. A few month after I commented on this thread, one arm blew out and left me on my bump stop in Moab, on a trail. Rebuild the Toyota arms with 555 ball joints and buy the reinforcement brackets. That is my advise. Good Luck!



Now I have my reinforced Toyota arms, painted in silver and all is good (photo attached)

I got a really great deal on some lca’s pulled off another cruiser from a Toyo yard (I think 50$ each) and I put 555’s ball joints and new bushings (from cruiser outfitters). Pretty sure I was right around 180 or 200$ for each arm when all was said and done

Once I changed out the lower control arms the clunk went away and the truck drove a lot better.
 
That's awesome. Thanks for the replies! I have not needed large parts for the cruiser in a while and didn't realize that cruiser Dan had retired. This totally saves my butt!

Yeah ditto this happened to me as well. Disaster. Never ever buy aftermarket LCA's for a 100. Way too much stress on them.
 
I think cruiser outfitters just started stocking aftermarket options but not sure of the brand

They have aftermarket (OME) rear lower control arms. I don't think they have aftermarket front LCA's. For the front you really want to just buy new, or if you're not in the rust belt replace the ball joints and bushings with OEM/ 555. There's numerous threads about aftermarket front LCA's taking a giant dump in very short order across all of the Toyota IFS platforms.
