On a Factory FJ-62 I would like to put an aftermarket temp gauge in my LC. But I am not sure if it will affect any other functions like the electric fan so on and so on. If it will interfere with some other function of the truck were else can I drill and tap the thermometer hole? I'm not sure if you understand what I am trying to do and trying to avoid. Any advise will be great...

Thanks in Advance

the fan is not electic, its a clutch set up. the "carb" cooling fan has a seperate senso r down by the exhaust manifold

BTW I have a 1988 LC. I not sure if you are thinking that I have a carb or you are just calling it the carb cooling fan. I guess I should clarify just a little. Whatever the name of it is, I am talking about the electric cooling fan attached to the fender. Is this the carb cooling fan?

So can I remove the original and install an aftermarket? Is there anything besides the gauge that requires the OEM led?

TIA

The electric fan on the fender is the carb cooling fan. It's on 60's and 62's, even EFI 62's. It only comes on after you shut off the engine. Don't think you want or need to mess with this. If it works, it works fine, and no need to improve it.

Assume you're talking about mods to the engine temp guage? As far as I know, changes to this won't affect the carb cooling fan. I remember a thread on the 80's forum about a sleeve that you install into the upper radiator hose, which accepts a temp sensor. This way you keep your OEM guage, but easily add an accurate aftermarket one too.

Thanks for the info. That sleeve idea is great, not sure why I never thought of that....

Thanks again..

I know, but we still call em carb cooling fans, however on a 62 they seldom turn on, unlike a fj60 where they come on often.

Thanks "LP" I am still getting used to the nomenclature.

Where can I find one of these couplings that will attach to the upper rad hose so I may throw in a aftermarket thermo
