should I fly out to Tacoma Washington from Los Angeles for this yota? Seems to good to be true. Also I’m worried about California’s stringent emissions test. Anybody ever brought a rig into California from Washington ? Any advice or comments appreciated .

I cannot speak to the emissions question as I live on the East Coast, however that truck does look clean. Did they provide any frame pics or pics of magnet on the out wheel well on the bed? Those areas are known for rusting badly.

Yes he did provide pictures I’ll Post later when I get to my other phone . Frame seemed to be in great condition

What's the asking price? How many miles does it have on it?

Not a bad price at all. You might want to check this one out:

It's already in CA and is pretty clean too, and cheaper (if it's legit)

Hard to tell on the pics of this one but looks to have a little more than "some" rust in the bed. There's a body seam on the beltline indentiation on the bed that looks to be bubbling in several places. Likely very expensive to fix. Here's an idea: buy a rust-free SoCal or Arizona rig and save it from being taken to Mexico...

The '84 is a straight axle too. But, it does have some rust (says bed). And - my biggest pet peeve for listings - miles aren't listed. Do these guys think someone is going to call, hear that it's got 300,000 miles and think "Well, that's a lot of miles, but I did call, so I guess I'm committed."

Meanwhile, 300,000 miles wouldn't necessarily scare me off. It's not a daily driver, likely gonna rebuild all the necessary stuff anyway, so...

Yeah it does look like there is some. Thanks for pointing that out! These trucks ALWAYS have to be seen in person when considering buying one!

Agreed. I'll take miles over rust any day. But when sellers don't list miles it just seem s***ty - like they're hiding them. Right up there with "The AC probably just needs freon" Uh huh. ;-)

Ironically, 170,000 miles (Carfax) isn't bad for a 33-yr-old Toyota

I traveled pretty far with cash in my pocket to buy both my 40 and Hilux. In the case of the Hilux I had a one way ticket and drove it the 2000 miles home afterward. Both turned out to be great trucks but it was definitely risky.

Nothing ventured nothing gained!

thats what I’m planning on doing with this truck. 987 miles back home. Had a mechanic in the area go out and look at it, he said should have no problem making it back home. But then the whole California smog check thing discourages me

Ask your smog shop if they will even run a test on it. CA is being poopy about anything more than 20 years old these days.

I would be more concerned that its a carburetor on it and not fuel injection . I had and 84 and 85 both carbs kinda of a pain in the ass on the hill sides. I did not see the price but looked in good shape.
