As the title implies, I need some advice on the purchase of an 04 100 series. I have checked various online sites, but value the opinions on here more than any other place. it is an 04, with about 72,000 miles. I believe it is loaded without about every option except for AHC. It came from Illinois but it looks clean with no major rust issues. The purchase price is $22,500 and that is not going to change. What do you guys think?

That sounds a little high for the miles; my LC is an 02 (2 yr older) but had 55k when I bought it 5 months ago for $21,000 from a private party (no TTL).

Why is the price set in stone? Is it on a dealer lot or private seller?

As has been discussed many times, even with lower gas prices (for now) you have the leverage here, not the seller.

I'd say walk if the price isn't flexible-- plenty out there. Plus, why not look West young man for one that hasn't seen road salt?

1. 2004 Land Cruisers didn't have an AHC option (only on 2006 and 2007 mys)

2. It's not a bad deal, its ok, but you aren't stealing the car. If it were me, I would probably wait a little longer until winter is over, gas starts to climb again, and the value will drop, once again.

3. I definitely second the buy a Land Cruiser from the West/South. While Chicago is better than the rust belt, IDOT does use salt on the roads, and considering most LCs are on the road there (well, there isn't anywhere to really off road out there), they are exposed to it. My 2001 started to rust on the tail gate in 2004, as well as around the gas door (the truck was in Chicago until I sold it). My LX470 is completely rust free, as I brought it with me from Florida to California (it got to skip IL).

I am on the fence right now for a simmilar vehicle, 04 with 77K miles and their bottom dollar is $22,750. I offered $21K and they wont even counter. Its a black unit with factory rear dvd and rear air bags, we are holding out for a 03 or newer 470 for under $25K in a light color.

Damn these thinks have gone down in value. I paid $36K for a 2004 Black LX470 with 38K miles that was perfect and lived its life in Austin TX back around March of 2008. I would say if you keep waiting they will go down in price. I would look for a southern vehicle as recommended. Mine looked new underneath when I bought it. It was also still under the Lexus warranty so I was able to buy the Platinum Lexus 7 year 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty for around $1200. Good luck in your search. I think 2004 is the best year for a LC/LX from a quality build standpoint. But they are all great.

no kidding Utah - I paid 27K for an '03 2 years ago with 55K on it... the response on this board was a resonding "great deal" at the time.... That same rig today might be 18K it seems.

I have been hunting too. Where are you guys finding these great deals?

Karl

My 02 with 55k that I paid $21g for in August 08 could probably be had for $16-17g now :meh:

Love it anyway...

I just paid 25k out the door, tax tags and CPO for a 2003 w/ 58k. I live 30 miles southwest of Washington DC, these trucks have gone up in price in my region. Of course they took a huge nose dive when gas was 4 bucks. The dip in gas has brought a small surge in the market. 100's are a great value, 23k for one the best trucks in the world. An 04 w/ 72k would sell for no less than 23k in Northern Virginia. 22K is good deal. If it's the one you want, color, options, etc... buy it, time is money. If you find one out of state, you've got to pay for travel. Ends up costing the same.

I paid $35,500 plus TTL for my 2004 LC..... However, mine was in mint condition. You would have sworn it was brand new, and a couple of my friends who saw it right after I got it thought it was a new one.
