Hello All,

Looking to buy my first Land Cruiser and was hoping for some advice. What do the people of the internet think, is this a decent price for this vehicle?

From CL ad:
1993 LC80 about 250k on the vehicle
Rebuilt engine 4.5L, new injectors and injector wiring
ported and polished head, new valve springs new plugs and wires, new distributor, new water pump. Timing chain was redone new gaskets and seals Rebuilt trans less than 1500 miles ago
Newly Rebuilt Birf’s, New spicer U joints with all the best axle hardware
Newly Rebuilt diff’s with 5:29 gearing with center diff lock button (rare)
2.5” OME LIFT and Bilstein shocks
17” Wheels With 285/70/17 Tires and plenty of tread left
Mechanically very sound
A/C and heater work great.

Does need a little TLC on the interior. It needs a drivers door panel, a window regulator, a stereo and door speakers, and a good detail. I have a solid interior guy that I can refer you to that can recover the drivers door panel.

I’m asking $7500. I am a little flexible, but keep in mind, I’ve put a ton of money in the vehicle and it’s SUPER RELIABLE with all the expensive stuff already competed. If you put in about $1000 into the interior, you’ll have a $12k rig.

A rebuilt engine is $10k job.
A rebuilt transmission is a $4k job.
Regearing, diff and axle refresh is a $4k job.
Lift is a $2k job.
Wheels, tires, AND the AC works (supposedly)
He has every right to ask $20k regardless of the other things and he says he's flexible @ $7500?
Eh...be sure to take a closer look. And legit paperwork is always good.

All of the “rebuilt and replaced” stuff is something to question very seriously. Why is the vehicle being sold so soon after this work was done? Spicer U-joints have no business in Toyota yokes. Who rebuilt the engine? What brand replacements parts were used? I’d be more attracted to an 80 that had well maintained original equipment even at 250k miles. There are a lot of unkowns posted in that ad.

Buying a well cared for original and then base lining it to your satisfaction will put your mind at ease and you will have learned a good bit about what you bought.

Greatly appreciate the advice guys!

I’ve had a bad experience buying a ‘93 Jeep XJ in the past (swapped ‘96 engine and trans) and don’t want to relive that nightmare.

Also, just got the VIN from the owner and I ran it, there’s an accident on record in 2010. Don’t have any details though.

Supposedly he bought the truck just over a year ago (previous owner did all of the engine/trans work) and his job took him out of town most of last year so he hardly drove the truck.

I'd keep looking.

:poof: [insert pithy Confucius quote here]

When I was looking, I had trouble buying from people that didn't do the work themselves and knew little about "their" truck. You don't really know what was done and when exactly it was done, or if it was shoddy work or not. I'd keep looking. Find one with lower miles and the original maintained engine.

If they went cheap and used Spicer u-joints, what else did they cut corners on? Spend a little more on Toyota OE u-joints and it'll last longer.

Funny reading the comments. Seems a little like guys are knocking this based on the u-joints used.

BUT, I agree with the logic. It indicates either a cheapness in the previous owners repair philosophy, or they don't have a good understanding of these vehicles.

I'd also seriously question all the rebuild work done by a part owner. It's kind of bogus to claim it as rebuilt then say, 'oh, the last guy did it, I don't know any details'.

The thing that stands out to me is the interior and under hood. If your selling, at least get the vacuum out and some cleaning products and pretend you give a s***.

There is a designated classifieds section.
Needs to be posted in the Classified section
It's not a for sale ad...he's asking the collective board evaluation and opinion about tech related issues...ie spicer joints. Classified section are for ads and he isn't selling.

@93cruizer does he have any receipts for the engine work or does he know where the work was done?

Everything can be bought at a good deal....just depends on how much. $7,000? $6,500? I bet most would take this rig if it passed inspection at $6,500. To echo others if the paperwork is in good order I think its worth a look. You could even pay a reputable shop to take a look at it.

Spicer u-joints, that radiator cap especially, (and kinda also the NGK wires) make me nervous about engine/trans rebuild.

5.29's and 33's, that sounds interesting.

Ad has "fishy" written all over it, but you could probably roll the dice at that price.

Based on the advice given, I am going to pass on this vehicle.

The current owner said that he tried to contact the previous owner last week to find out the name of the shop but has had no response.
All seems a little sketchy to me.
