To All,

I own a 97 model with 110,000 miles on the ODO (Stock no modifications).

Lately in order to keep the truck tracking straight I have to tilt the steering wheel 20-25 degrees to the left (pulls to the right if the steering wheel dead center, also have a slight tire wear showing on the right front tire)

Note: The steering wheel is tilted to the left by 10-15 degrees if left alone as well.

I know the only adjustment for alignment is TOE on the 80......adjusting the front rod for wheel centering will have no affect on the alignment with the exception of centering the steering wheel....How can I do this ? and is it possible that someone provides some pictures of the Front Rod that needs to be adjusted so I know which one to tackle.

Also I will be checking the TOE and adjust it accordingly and if I am not mistaken it is the one that is located behind the front axle ?? am I correct ?

Any help you provide is much appreciated.

Thanks

Al

In order to adjust the steering wheel back to horizontal position you have to loosen the two front clamps of the link rod with a 17mm.

Next, the link rod will need to be loosened up with some PB Blaster. The tie tods and the link rod thread's have been sitting for 9 years so some rust has formed. Shoot the area with PB and wait about 20 minutes.

Next, using a pipe wrench at one end of the lin rod turn the rod to loosen.

Finally, as you are laying down in front of the rig (you right under the bumper) bring the pipe wrench down to lengthen the rod or up to shorten the link.

Note:
The rear rod is only for TOE. To adjust the TOE turn the link rod in the same fashion as the front.

The get the proper TOE on the front tires, pick four points on the two tires, front and back at the center height of the tire. Then adjust the wheels so that an equal length is acheived on the front and rear of the tire measurement. Then, tow in the tires by 1/16 of an inch.
I've had success with this method and have not needed to readjust.
