I'm the original owner of a 95 LC with 115K miles and factory lockers.

In the years I've owned this vehicle, I tried to activate the lockers once and for some reason, gave up when they didn't stop flashing right away.

Having read several posts, I concluded the actuators were shot and never paid any more attention to it.

Tonight, I was driving in some heavy rain and exited the 118 freeway in the LA area at Rocky Peak Rd. and pulled over to the Santa Susana trail head entrance. Since it was quite muddy, I decided to try my lockers by moving backwards and forwards in the mud after I engaged the switch. After about 20 or 30 seconds, they stopped flashing and apparently engaged! Surprisingly, they didn't appear to disengage immediately when I switched them off, but they did after a little while.

What sort of frequency is good for engaging these things to keep them in reasonable working order?

The only remaining gripe I have is the ABS light on my dash from the left front sensor being out. Is there any way to shut of the light besides pulling the bulb for it?

Thanks.

Uh replace the sensor? :D

I would change the gear oil in your axles, and engage the lockers monthly or bimonthly to ensure good working order. That said, mine were not engage for years and the front locked up the first time i tried it.

It is normal for them to take some distance to disengage. Turning side to side will help.

Thanks for the locker info. Don't particularly miss ABS and was put off by the $400-$500 part cost plus the labor. Dealer quoted $750, 3 years ago.

Not sure how hard it is to replace the sensor but I'd look into contacting Cruiserdan (via PM) to see how much the part is. OH -welcome to the forum!

A single ABS wheel sensor is a breeze to swap out, you have to take them out when you do a birf job anyway......

You guys have a lot more skill than I do!

My understanding is both ABS front wheel sensors have tobe replaced at the same time. Part is approx $425?

Is that C-Dan's price or just you walking into the nearest dealer?

Replacing the ABS sensors is a breeze. Take off one bolt, unplug the sensor and pull it out of the knucle housing (don't try prying it out with anything if you intend to keep them, they are plastic). Once you have the wheel off it's a 5 minute job each side.

I believe Toyota only sells them in pairs but I may be wrong so you can replace both and keep the one that is working as a spare.

I engage/disengage mine once a month wether they need it or not. Course ARB's don't have the same difficulties in that department as factory lockers..... :D

Once a month for me too, but they still take a while to engage/disengage. Sometimes a little turn of the wheel to get the axles spinning at slightly different speeds at <1mph helps engage and disengage...

Price I mentioned for the sensors is from memory. Might be less.

You should go and get another price quote. As parts get older the prices come down.

Not at all accurate when it comes to Toyota OEM replacement parts.

So, Cruiserdan, are you telling me I should pick up that TRD supercharger now, b4 I get a rebuild? I don't know if I can sell the wife on that one, but I'd be glad to try.... ;)
