Is there a trick to. Dropping the fuel pump assembly into the tank, to get an accurate reading on the gas’s gauge ?
My symptom: no matter how much fuel I coax into the tank, I can never get the gas gauge to show “full”. ( because I don’t want to run out, I don’t know if it is also accurate at the low end, so I never let it go to low)
I have pulled the assembly, plugged it back in outside the tank, and manually moved the float arm to both stops, and it seems to register on the gauge as expected.
I am waiting to burn off some fuel before I pull it again to double check that it does read correctly when moved outside the tank. As I recall the float is “rectangular”, and it may have turned a bit and may be oriented like a “diamond”, so the corner hits the top of the tank, keeping the float from full range of movement. But wonder if there is something I am doing wrong slipping it into the tank ?
