Hi, I've got a 1979 BJ-40 left drive

And my accelerator cable broke.

Does anyone have a tip for where I can get a new one? SOR only lists them for different years or RHD, but I would think that they're the same part?

the LHD version has been discontinued for quite awhile.

78180-90312 is the correct part number.

It may be possible to use a BJ42 cable but not positive it may need the pedal replaced as well ...I can't see why there would be much of a difference between the two models.

that happened to me. i took my cable to a cable maker and they made me one no problem.

Where do I find a cable maker? I found a new cable and ends from a motorcycle shop that I'm going to solder together, but I have my doubts that it'll last.

Ask the motorcycle shop if they have someone who can do it chances are they can do it for you....the shops around here can do it or send it out if they need a custom length casing.
