For the past few days ive been driving my 80 series, and though I live in Florida its still cold. Every morning when I start driving its abnormally slugish, and then a few minutes later after it gets warmed up it drives fine. Now today im in town and turn right on red and my car will not accelerate after I was going about 20, my RPM gauge was jumping and the engine sputtered and then after i almost got hit by an FJcruiser it drove fine. now my question is what would cause it to do that, could it be a fuel injector? thats my best guess, ive been running some tecron in my last gas tank hoping that would help free it up, but so far I dont think its doing much for it. Has anyone else experienced this, or know what it may be?
thanks for any help:cheers:

maybe..?

someone told me that if it does it when it's cold then it may be the emissions systems.
I'm still trying to find out about my own problem.good luck! :)

Have you done any maintenance on the vehicle lately? Any check engine light.

Try a bottle of Chevron with Techron, may help clean any junk out.

no check engine light, but I put a bottle of tecron in it and have almost cycled through one tank of gas with it in it

have you checked the plugs, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, any of the other basic tune up items.

How about the timing?

yep timings good, just put in a new fuel filter, I should check the plugs but they are relatively new and it needs an oil change but other than that I think everything is good. I also heard about when its cold the computers try to compinsate for something...or something of that nature, but it never did this last winter...

off topic: I saw your avatar, and I have two Tikka T3s myself and they are amazing!

Huh, well with my limited knowledge, I am out of ideas. I am sure someone will chime in with more direction.

How is the air filter?

Yes I have one T3 in a .270 Win and I love it as well. A great gun!

Could be the fuel pump cutting out on you.

thanks for the advice guys, but I forgot to mention im currently getting 9 MPG!!! I used to get 13MPG, it has to have something to do with the same thing

potential for the mass air flow MAF to be dirty and not reading right (should be a heated wire style in your 97)

if you can check your codes look for something to do with the 02 sensors(really just the front one) if the front o2 sensor isn't functioning properly it could sometimes cause your problems.

may also be the coolant temp senser. not sure if there is one for the ecm and one for the guage. if the temp sensor isn't reading right(thinks it is cold) it could be dumping more fuel than it needs.

someone who can read a scanner and watch what is happening could tell you the prob(obvious solution i know)

just some helpfull advice
