So I learned something new that I had never considered. After taking my truck to an AC specialist they found corrosion on the aluminum coolant hose pipes and that the evaporator just fell apart in their hand. $2500 to replace all the damaged components. The shop owner said that a lot of the soil in the desert around here is composed of corrosive salts and the dust will eat things up if exposed to moisture. Good to know, given my vehicle doesn’t get washed much if at all except in winter.

Yep. Basically to dust. So strange as my 100 and FJ 60 AC systems have held together with no real failures since new.

Yes, the rear. Not sure about my 100. I have never had a single issue with the AC in that vehicle.

This is why my Toyota tec didn’t want to mess with the tiny, insignificant leak on mine. He felt with all the road salt corrosion he would probably do more damage trying to fix it.
